One Track Sunday: Taylor Swift Is Never Ever Getting Back Together With Ex
The last time Taylor Swift released a prominent music video, the track was for the Hunger Games soundtrack, and it certainly was not about a boy. This time around, the songstress has put together a track solely about the end of the relationship and all the problems she had when she was still with some dude back in the day. Interestingly, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” employs a pretty peppy melody, with the right number of “oohs” to sing along.
There’s something very urgently emotional and needlessly juvenile about “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” a song that has lyrics that read like they are from a YA novel. Swift recently turned 22—an age where most people have already finished college—and her creative directors are still employing bubble letters in her music videos. I’m not sure what that says about the singer, but I do appreciate her putting a little lilt in her voice during the opening verse that reminds me a little of Kimya Dawson.
Swift has had a number of high profile romances in the past, and one of her former beaus recently went on the record to state the new single is not about him. Joe Jonas says he never did try to get back with Swift in a radio interview earlier this week, which means he is out. However, there are still plenty of people, including Taylor Lautner and Jake Gyllenhaal left to wonder about.
Swift’s upcoming album, Red, drops on October 22.
