Fifty-five years ago, Pat Boone made a career out of covering songs written by black musicians and peddling them to white audiences. With a pleasant voice and an all-American optimism, his craft generated incredible revenues and wooed many hearts, but by the mid-60s, the British Invasion had upended the record industry and made Boone’s covers obsolete. Unfortunately, the former General Motors spokesman is now in his late 70s and still prone to reworking things months after they first made headlines.

The singer was in Los Angeles for a Republican event over the weekend when he stopped to explain to a reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle why Barack Obama shouldn’t lawfully be President. If the following quote sounds familiar, it’s probably because you heard the exact same argument made months ago by Donald Trump before ninety-nine percent of the collective world mutually agreed he was wrong. Here’s what Pat Boone had to say…

”I was in Kenya about a year and a half ago and everybody said, “you know he was born here.”…Why else would he be hiding all his records? He is spending millions of dollars so we do not have his records..And experts have already looked at and been able to verify that this long form document is a fraud.

Honestly, I don’t even understand how this is an argument anymore. If men like Bill O’Reilly devote entire segments to explaining to their audience why there’s no facts to back this wild claim up, how are their people left carrying the torch? Boone went on to complain that the media has covered the whole thing up. If there was any truth to it, don’t you think Fox News would be running this story everyday?
