There are millions of men in the world who would quit their jobs, disown their mothers and do pretty much anything to get one closed mouth kiss from Pippa Middleton, but apparently, there’s one who’s completely unwilling to rearrange his life to be with her. Alex Loudon and Pippa Middleton have broken up because she wants to move to Southern France and he wants to stay in London. Wait…what?

There are a lot of reasons to break up with women. Depending on the guy’s station in life, his future prospects, her likeability and her attractiveness, I can wrap my head around and make sense of most any split, but every now and then, whether it be due to an inflated ego or poor friend advice, a dude makes a fundamentally awful relationship decision that I just can’t condone. This is one of those cases. There has to be more to this story. Rational men don’t just dump beautiful Royal sisters because they don’t want to live in luxury in Southern France. Or maybe they do, and I’m just not hip to this parallel universe where men relationship hop between sexy heiresses who all brunch at Buckingham Palace.

According to The Sun, Pippa’s decision to move relates to her career as a party planner, and she’s hoping to land work coordinating events for the Cannes Film Festival. The break-up is being treated as a trial separation, and she and Alex will reconvene in September to discuss their future. Spoiler alert: trial separations almost never work, and even if this one does, what does it say about him that he won’t move to help her fulfill her dreams?
