Project Runway All-Stars: Do You Miss Tim Gunn?

Project Runway All-Stars premiered earlier tonight, as thirteen designers returned for redemption and another shot at fame. From Mondo to Rami, many of the best who barely missed their opportunities to win are back, but there are several famous faces who are not, most notably Heidi Klum, Michael Kors and Tim Gunn.

With new judges and a new host, the returning competitors have a chance to impress a new set of faces including Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman, as well as mentor Joanna Coles. They’re all extremely talented heavyweights within the industry, but they’re also not what viewers are used to.

Of course, new isn’t always bad. In fact, the first-time American Idol judges breathed new life into the reality competition show last season, but Project Runway is a different case. Nothing about the show has ever grown stale for most viewers, and if anything, it’s the talent of the contestants rather than the performance of the judges that often dictates whether or not the season is a success. By now, we all pretty much know what to expect from Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum.

I definitely found myself missing those familiar faces during tonight’s episode. Fill-in host Angela Lindvall is vastly superior to Project Accessories host Molly Sims, but she still has a long way before she’s as seamless and likeable as Heidi Klum. Joanna Coles too was engaging and helpful in her role as mentor, but to me, no one can ever replace Tim Gunn. He’s at least half the reason I watch the show.

What do you think? Do you miss Tim Gunn, or are you happy to have a change? Let us know by voting in the poll below…
