Rowan Atkinson might be known for his bumbling and incompetent caricature Mr. Bean, but the actor found himself in a bit more of a serious situation than he’s used to the other night. In fact, the whole ordeal is like something out of a James Bond movie. Driving his McLaren F1 supercar, Atkinson lost control of the vehicle, spun around several times, struck a tree and then a lamppost before narrowly escaping as the vehicle engulfed in flames. While none of it was planned, I think Houdini would still give Atkinson a thumbs up on his quick thinking and acrobatic escape.

According to The Evening Star, it all happened around 7:30 local time on Wednesday evening. Atkinson was able to maneuver on is own following the blaze until a Good Samaritan stopped to help and phone the police. The comedy legend was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for some undisclosed shoulder injuries. He’s expected to make a full recovery and be released from the hospital shortly.

Atkinson has long been known as a major automobile enthusiast. He recently appeared on Top Gear to race his 1964 Ford Falcon and did quite well for himself, completing the course in under two minutes and topping all other competitors. The actor is yet to release any statements on whether he’ll continue driving his sporty cars, but like Sean Kingston and his jet skis, something tells me Atkinson has a little too much pride to let one mishap get the best of him.
