Sigourney Weaver relished a false tabloid report linking her romantically to director Roman Polanski - because the affair was the most entertaining rumor she'd ever read about herself.

The filmmaker was poised to take legal action against editors over claims he was having a sexual relationship with his Death and the Maiden leading lady, but Weaver was delighted her love life was making headlines for the first time.

She tells Britain's The One Show, "I was on the cover of some English magazine saying I was having a big affair with Roman Polanski because somebody had taken a picture of me in a cafe with him in Rome, talking about doing Death and the Maiden together. He actually called to say, 'Should we sue this magazine?' And I said, 'Oh Roman, this is the most interesting thing that anybody has ever written about me. Please let's not sue them, let's encourage them!'" (PAW/WNV/KL)
