Former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash is celebrating after his solo debut was named Album of the Year at the Classic Rock Roll Of Honor awards on Wednesday (10Nov10). The rocker's self-titled offering saw off competition from acts including Kiss, Iron Maiden and Wolfmother to win the prize at the ceremony, held at London's Roundhouse venue and hosted by Alice Cooper.

Australian stars AC/DC picked up the Band of the Year honour, while Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones was given a standing ovation as he collected his Outstanding Contribution trophy.

Three Black Sabbath legends were honored at the event - bassist Geezer Butler was crowned Metal Guru, and late metal star Ronnie James Dio was remembered with the Tommy Vance Inspiration prize. Former Sabbath frontman Glenn Hughes accepted the Childline Rocks award.

Canadian trio Rush won the Living Legend award, which was picked up by frontman Geddy Lee. Other winners included the Rolling Stones (Reissue of the Year for Exile On Main St.) and singer Roy Wood (Classic Songwriter). (PAW/WNTST/KD)
