The Smashing Pumpkins Announce Fall Tour

By Joseph Giannone 2011-08-15 18:05:51
The Smashing Pumpkins have been a staple in alternative rock for the past twenty-two years. Not many groups have passed their influence on the genre and few garnered more attention in the 1990’s than them. Famous for their smash hit “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” the single led the group to become a radio sensation while the album it came off of, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, propelled them to be a household name.

That was all the way back in 1995 though, and since then they have lost some of their fan base. This is not because of the quality of their music, 2007’s Zeitgeist was a step backwards, it’s due to the fact that they have simply not been touring enough. That is all about to change though.

Bill Corgan has been the only consistent member of The Smashing Pumpkins throughout all the many different line-up changes. Singer Corgan has finally gotten a solid group to tour with and they are now ready to go on the road. Releasing dates for the Pumpkins new tour today August 15th, the band will be heading to places like California and New York. Here is the full list of tour dates:

Though they haven’t released an album since 2009’s Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, they’ve been hard at work on their latest endeavor Oceania which is a part of a series of concept albums joint with Kaleidyscope. What’s even better is that basketball player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar dunked a pumpkin promoting the band’s latest album.

It’s exciting for all children of the 90’s who are going to get their taste of songs like “Zero” and “1979” again. This tour has been long awaited and it’s now that time again for everyone to bring out their Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness t-shirts and rock out.
