Snoop Says A Gay Rapper Wouldn't Be Accepted, Do You Agree?

Over the past decade or so, the United States has become a decidedly less homophobic place. Unfortunately, there’s still a long way to go, especially in certain professions. Both professional football and the rap industry are commonly cited as places where homophobia is still rampant. Last year, when acclaimed singer Frank Ocean came out, there was great hope that his doing so would cause both his fellow musicians and some members of the black community to reconsider their opinions. Unfortunately, if you take it from Snoop, that didn't happen in the rap game.
Here’s what he told The Guardian…
"Frank Ocean ain't no rapper. He's a singer. It's acceptable in the singing world, but in the rap world I don't know if it will ever be acceptable because rap is so masculine. It's like a football team. You can't be in a locker room full of motherfucking tough-ass dudes, then all of a sudden say, 'Hey, man, I like you.' You know, that's going to be tough."
Snoop went on to say he personally has no problem with gay people and has plenty of “gay homies”. He just doesn’t think a rapper publically outing himself would go over very well with the community. On the one hand, he might be right. There’s a lot of pomp and circumstance related to being a rapper and living a certain lifestyle involving money and women, and on the surface, homosexuality would put a man on a different track. On the other hand, however, it’s possible Ocean really did change something and we just won’t know it until someone comes out. After all, everyone could feel like Snoop and be personally okay with it but think others wouldn’t be.
