Sorry Gaga, Jennifer Lopez Picked As Most Powerful Celebrity
Every year, Forbes picks its 100 most powerful celebrities. Each choice is ranked from first to last in six categories including money earned and tv/radio presence. The results are then unscientifically engineered to produce an ordered ranking to find the biggest mover and shaker in popular culture. Last year, Lady Gaga earned the crown, but this year, the list skewed a little older at the top.
With fifty-two million dollars pocketed, a strong social media following, a high profile divorce that kept her in the headlines and a judging chair on American Idol, Jennifer Lopez bested all her competitors, nudging out Oprah Winfrey, Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Gaga who rounded out the top five.
Curiously, Lopez failed to rank higher than tenth in any of the categories, but with no placements lower than thirty, it was apparently that consistency which Forbes editors prized. With her personal life stabilizing and rumors that she might quit American Idol after this season, it seems unlikely she’ll wind up in the same place a year from now.
Given it’s the Forbes 100, everyone who made the list is of course famous and notable, but there were still a few surprises. Despite not having won a major in years, Tiger Woods still managed to finish 12th, while his main competition Phil Mickelson wound up in 48th. Simon Cowell cracked the top 20 in spite of only being ranked 79th in the social media category, and Beyonce did the same while only placing 43rd in money earned.
