Tom Felton Says He Wants To Rap, Is Draco Serious?
If left to their own devices, celebrities get up to some odd adventures. Recently, James Franco started selling invisible art and the Coheed and Cambria bassist Michael Toddrobbed a Walgreens with a fake bomb. This is what happens when no one's there to give you straight talk. Everyone needs a good friend to say, “That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard” once in a while. Otherwise, the Tom Felton's of the world decide to become rappers.
According to The Sun, the twenty-three year old Harry Potter actor was recently given a record contract by an independent label. Now that Felton is free from the shackles of Draco Malfoy, he has some time on his hands, time he apparently wants to spend pretending to be Snoop Dogg. “I'm going to change my image,” he said, before admitting the project was still under wraps.
Ordinarily, I'd have no reason to doubt his veracity, but the actor later mentioned “backwards hats” as a way he'd establish himself in the “grime rap UK scene.” That sounds like a hilarious, tongue-in-cheek joke, but as I wasn't there and am unaware of his sense of humor, there's really no way for me to know for sure. Felton crushed playing a straight man in Get Him To The Greek, but real life personalities don't always match up with on-screen personalities.
Fans of Degrassi: The Next Generation may remember Drake got his start playing the wheelchair-bound Jimmy Brooks, but the truth is most people can't rap. Actors, especially, seem to be terrible at it. Drake is definitely the exception, but Tom Felton has tried his hand at music before. He released some pop songs in 2009 to average enough reviews.
