The United States of America has never had a king, queen, duke, or duchess; and if the undying controversy that surrounds England’s royal family is any indication, the U.S. is probably better off. That being said, when some members of God’s chosen family (or whatever they say) graces Los Angeles with their presence, two things happen: 1) Traffic sucks in LA, & 2) Celebrities flock out like they’ve never seen someone famous before. The irony is as pleasant as it is predictable.

So now that the royal couple is making their way to Hollywood for a BAFTA gala which celebrates up and coming Brits in the southland. Let it be clear: This is not an event that A-list celebrities go to. It’s just not. That is what made the news broken by E! Online mildly surprising. It turns out that Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Nicole Kidman, Tom Hanks, Kristin Chenoweth, Derek Hough, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Dana Delany are all 100% attending. Jack Black is also rumored to attend the party.

Tom Hanks? Really? Really Tom Hanks? Do you really care that much about meeting these people? What will you talk about? Politics? The weather? What they think of America? Seriously, I can’t imagine a more dull bout of small talk than the kind that will flow between these celebrities and Prince William/Kate Middleton. Regardless, the BAFTAs red carpet event will be covered by E! Online, so if anything remarkable does happen, we’ll be on it.
