Watch: Brad Pitt Gets Serious And Poetic In New Chanel No. 5 Ad
Last spring, it was announced that Brad Pitt would be the first male to serve as the face of Chanel No. 5, following in the footsteps of Audrey Tatou, Nicole Kidman, Marilyn Monroe and Catherine Deneuve. How would Pitt do representing the nearly century-old scent? See for yourself as the first video ad has made its way online.
Brad Pitt's featured in the Chanel No 5 below, a black and white ad that has Pitt spouting poetry. I'm not sure if he's talking about a person or the cologne, but he seems very serious about it.
"It's not a journey. Every journey ends, but we go on. The world turns and we turn with it. Plans disappear. Dreams takeover. But wherever I go, there you are. My luck. My fate. My fortune. Chanel No. 5. Inevitable."
I'll admit, it's not for me. I've never felt an emotional connection any perfume though, so this kind of poetry may be lost on me. And I prefer my Pitt with a bit more Durden in him, so there's that. But I doubt a Tyler Durden version of Pitt would've worked in this kind of setting. Then again, that character was all about peddling designer soap to wealthy women, so maybe there's a connection that could have been made. Probably a longshot. Regardless, I guess I'll shelve this ad with Tree of Life among the work Brad Pitt has done that wasn't for me.
What did you think? Is it dramatic and brilliant? Or over-dramatic and too serious for perfume (even Chanel)?
