What Classic Thanksgiving Food Is The Most Overrated?

No holiday has more food expectations than Thanksgiving. You can invite people over for Christmas and not have cookies. You can have an Easter gathering at your house without ham or a 4th of July party without hot dogs, but if you volunteer to host Thanksgiving and fail to supply turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and either mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes, you will be treated as a poor excuse for a human being. Really, thatís only the bare bones requirements too.

A decent percentage of people fully expect green bean casserole, rolls, carrots and some sort of corn dish in addition to what I mentioned above. Their absences might not sour friendships, but they can certainly lead to backtalk, whispers and sad stomachs. Thereís no point in over-thinking or taking a stand, itís best to just make whatís expected and find another way to fight the system.

For example: I hate cranberry sauce. I find it to be a formless blob of aggressive, one note flavor. Earlier today, I didnít spread it onto my turkey, and a year from now, I wonít be giving it another chance. Iíve tried it enough to know it sucks, and Iím fine moving forward with that opinion. It does nothing for me, but the next time I host Thanksgiving, I can still promise you itíll be offered to my guests. You canít leave off the staples, you can only bitch about how overrated they are.
