With Harry Potter in the past for the first time, Daniel Radcliffe opened a new movie this weekend. Entitled Woman In Black, Cinema Blend gave the film three and a half stars but also worried it may not prove to be the post wizarding breakout its lead actor was hoping for. With all apologies to the film, that seems to be what most people are interested in anyway. Will the boy who lived survive the rigors of Hollywood now that he’s forced to find new roles?

Following the first few installments of Harry Potter, my answer would have been a resounding no. Radcliffe really didn’t prove a whole lot when he was younger, but over the past few years, he’s added more layers to his famous character. That opportunity was thanks to J.K. Rowling’s improvement as a writer, but credit is still owed to the actor for achieving the most with what he was given. Yes, it’s a bit odd to write about this today considering he just revealed he filmed scenes next morning drunk, but since none of us noticed, I won’t hold it against him. In fact, it’s actually kind of impressive that he pulled if off.

Regardless of how Woman In Black fairs this weekend, Radcliffe will continue to get roles for the next few years. He’s a big enough name to weather more than a few failures, but it still remains to be seen whether he can transform the success he’s achieved into a lasting career.
