After setting off a firestorm of reports, commentary, and even a spoof with the video testimonial in which he bashed the show that made him a star, Two and a Half Men’s Angus T. Jones has issued a statement responding to the controversy. Although he doesn’t take back anything he said, he does apologize to everyone involved in the show.
When the video surfaced yesterday in which Jones calls the show “filth” and declares it’s the work of “the enemy” and not something he wants to be a part of, it shocked everyone who saw it. The comments came as part of a religious testimony the star recorded for Forerunner Christian Church and make it clear he has come to the conclusion that his religion and his career are at odds. Although no spokesperson for the show has yet responded, there have been several responses elsewhere, including a spoof of the clip by The Office’s Rainn Wilson, and commentary from former co-star Charlie Sheen saying Two and a Half Men is cursed. But now Angus T. Jones himself has broken his silence and issued a statement. In it, he states that he did not mean to offend anyone and apologizes to the entire cast and crew of the show for his remarks. The full statement, which was shared by Deadline, doesn’t address the remarks directly, nor his future on the show: I have been the subject of much discussion, speculation and commentary over the past 24 hours. While I cannot address everything that has been said or right every misstatement or misunderstanding, there is one thing I want to make clear. It sounds less like Jones has had a change of heart than that he’s realized he may have just offended the people who write his very hefty paychecks, as well as the people he’ll have to work with when he returns to the show midseason. Still, the apology does sound sincere, and Jones' youth may well earn him forgiveness. Back to top
