Rated-R and no-holds-barred, the iconic creatures from two of the scariest film franchises wage their most brutal battle ever -- in our own backyard.
Let’s give Fox some credit here. Yeah they’re making a sequel to a crappy, franchise-ruining movie which nobody liked, but at least they seem to be attempting to correct some of the mistakes that were made with the first one.
For instance Paul W.S. “not the good one” Anderson, architect of the original AVP, is nowhere in sight. He’s not involved in the sequel, not even a little bit. Instead they’ve brought in two first timers with a background in visual effects named Greg and Colin Strause, guys who claim to actually like the Alien and Predator movies they’re supposed to be basing their battle movie on. Can they direct? Who knows, but at least they’re not Anderson.
Then there’s Fox’s apparent willingness to let this one be rated-R. The franchise they’re ripping off to make these monstrosities were renowned for being hardcore, R-rated horror movies. For the first AVP, they watered it down to a lukewarm PG-13. They pulled in teenagers, but pushed the two franchises’s original fans right out the door. Now they’re attempting to correct that, by making this the R-rated horror movie AVP should have been..
Do we need an AVP sequel? Hell no. Since we have to have one though, at least there’s some small reason to hope that maybe this time it’ll be good.

Wow...there is one thing that I learned from this trailer. The movie is gonna be bad. I can tell from the trailer that the acting is bad--when I can do that, it's really gonna be bad! There is no anticipation whatsoever from watching this trailer. It looks like a trailer for a movie that will be on the sci-fi channel.
It has a Uwe Boll esq felling to it--a feelign of failure. Need I say more? Here comes another dissapointment in the making. Save us some time and port this thing straight to video--VHS for that matter (don't waste DVD on this), or give it a big premiere on the sci-fi channel.
Ok, the trailer looks good, and how dare u compare this to looking like an Uwe boll movie. Uwe boll is the worst director ever, and he needs to be sued. AVP2 lookes so much better then the first one, and will blow out at the box offices.
i think also that avp2 will be better and yes the trailer is very good ,i have being around from the very 1st alien film ,all of them have being good in my eyes,i like this type of (who is stronger) and smarter .predator has gone from the 1st time is was shown to be better and better ,now the super beast has a foe that matches the skill and kill rate like no other b4 them.i am a big fan of both of them and may the best beast win or man ??
I have been a fan of the Alien series from the orginal as well, and the Predator movies were okay but no-way made me a fan as much. I did think having the first AvP movie as PG-13 was wrong from the start, and judging by the trailer this one did give the feeling 'its gonna be better than the first". Most importantly, the Aliens must win!!
I have to agree with what they are doing, I mean this 'johnny appleseed' jackass doesn't know dick all about what he is talking about.AVP sucked ass compared to the original movies and AVP-R has to be better with two of the original guys on it.
Alien was a classic movie, and Aliens was the perfect sequel. Both these were more than just standard horror/sci-fi action movies, they were groundbreaking movies that spawned dozens of imitations.
Alien 3 was ok, but a big disappointment coming after the previous two.
Alien Resurrection was a joke -a cheesy, brainless sci-fi B-movie that ruined the franchise.
Predator was a classic action movie, and Predator 2 was quite good.
But AVP was a complete joke, a total travesty.
I cant believe they are bringing out this sequel. They have already soiled the earlier movies enough with the terrible recent additions.
I'm just glad to see Predators again.. I could care less about anything else, I try not to get caught up in acting. I watch for the costumes effects and action. Predators rule.
actually for all of you out there screaming about how bad the first movie was , you are apparently not true fans.
If you were you would know that there are both comics and books about the aliens vs predators, that have already set down the basics and the story line that the first movie covered.
Most of us appluad the directors of the first movie for actually doing their research and adepting it into a very good story line.
For those who sit there and jeer it I suggest you go back to your usual mindless enjoyment of dropping live mice into food processors and leave the real movie fans to rateing and decideing what movies are actually good.
Alien was amazing, Aliens was even better, Alien3 had a decent storyline but didnt compare, Resurection had a decent storyline but executed poorly and AVP was had a GREAT story...short, fast, but still managed to get a decent rating from me.
Predator was incredible, Predator 2 didnt let me down......AVP-R looks like it should be better than AVP but it seems to have a cheesy feel judging from the trailers......I hope it's just my imagination and it turns out to be captivating from the word go....irregardless these movies have been a staple in millions of home movie collections and will continue to be for a long time.
Alien was, and still is the greatest sci-fi horror ever ! made on a shoe string budget, with astonishing results ! Aliens was a fantastic shootem up sequal ! I loved Alien 3 but was somewhat let down by the insistance to use the f word every other line ! Alien Resurrection started well and i liked the idea but the ending was totally cheesey and the half human half alien killed it for me ! not in my collection !
Predator was another classic arnie movie ! Loved every second of it ! Predator 2 was good but nothing original !
AVP was a total disaster i know it took after the mags but still it was awfull ! Everything was ok up untill the point when the predator decided to be a big brother for the last human ! Errr sorry but no !
AVP-R looks good in my eyes ! and i shall certanly be watching it when it comes to the uk ! Hopefully its everything that avp should have been ! so watch this space !!!!! and your back !!!!!!!!!
AvP had the potential to be a lot better than it was. First of all, you don't take two franshises that are both R rated, for good reason, and combine them to make a PG-13-lets-get-the-kids-to-enjoy-it-too piece of total garbage Anderson came out with.
The storyline was good in my opinion but horribly executed. Two predators were killed within 2 minutes of each other....wtf? There wasn't nearly enough human fodder for the two alien species to play around with, there wasn't any gore for the most part and it would have been nice if it was explained how the hell Bishop keeps on popping up in all the movies! AvPR looks like it will be really good. I just hope its not a total dissappointment like the first one.
It's entertainment people! Find some peace of mind and enjoy the movies. I liked thema ll and just like anything else they all had ups and downs. Besides the fact that, the travelers that seeded this planet and return on occassion to harvest their hybrids are readying us for another return of planet x, they write the real story and myths abound.
I HELP BUILD THE SETS IN VANC. CANADA. i had a great time on set it was a fun build i'm also a fan of both the alien and the predator and the people on set were great lotsa joking around the brothers were funny to watch i am so looking forward to the screening....im sure the true fans will get what they are looking for ciao4now
we have some press screening of this "masterpiece"in poland,so here it goes:
Generally
The directing
It's Brothers Strause big screen debut. From making commercials they are thrown into full lentgh motion picture, about which most of us had high hopes of. They got a very poor script and had to turn out to be genius, like Cameron for example, to create a visual interpretation of Salernos crap.
As Confucius used to say? You won't squeeze blood from a rapeseed. Me, in opposition to the major audience, don't have any issues with Finchers Alien3. it's errors are only Gilers fault, which was sending next pages of the script via fax during the production. However the visual style of Alien3 makes it the most beautiful installment of the saga. How AVPR looks?
It Looks average. The Bros didn't work out any (at least recognizable) style. most of the movie action takes place during the night. Dark and poor weather conditions (including heavy rain) aren't building tension as they should be. Add to that very poorly presented aliens. And not only that, they were also poorly designed and built. Their overlook, prepared by 'the specialists' from ADI, aren't even mediocre. Their appearing on the screen is poor too - covered in dark and bad lightning (not climatic, as it should be). The Predator turns to be better, but it might be because of the hunting during the day and the darkness in his case could work as his camouflage. But it's hard to tell if that thing had any influence, because generally the visuals of this movie were on a level of a common popcorn flick.
...AVPR's compromitation, as well as it was with the Anderson movie, begins in the second act. Maybe i don't know that, but i thought that National Guard don't resemble regular army forces. Why did platoons arrive to Gunnison, that looks like they've been taken out straight from Kabul one moment ago?
Stupidity in terms of respecting Alien and Predator canon is another issue. Hunter starts new profession and gets rid of the bodies, both alien and human, and the viewer don't have any idea why. He grabs his shoulder cannon, and thanks to that from distinguish hunter he is becoming bad cowboy with a gun. His confrontations with aliens look awkward. Punches, kicks and wrestling. Alien isn't better. While Adnerson screwed up the time of reproduction cycle, bros are trying to make us belive, that whole hive structure can be build in the matter of few hours.
The Workshop
Unfortunatley the unexperienced brothers did mistakes in filming action sequences too. Attempts to get to the chopper on the roof are nothing more, than shooting in the dark. Habit taken from the work on commercials and video clips brings chopped editing. Especially in terms of alien versus predator fights.
At the end
.. i'll tell you, that movie grand finale was dissapointing the most. Complete absence of inteligent end of subplots. Lack of justice hurt the monsters the most. Alien and predator became the main characters of the movie and their end is... VERY DISSAPOINTING.
As the whole movie.
Big Aliens and Predator fan. Just came back from AVP R. After watching it I think I like the first AVP wwaayyy better. Acting in this one was poor and there was too much focus on the humans. The aliens and the predator walked like they were one of us humans, didn't even attempt to make it look alien like. The focus jumped back and forth in between the 3 species which made it hard for excitment to build up. Overall, this movie belongs on the C-list.
All the predators and aliens movies were good...with the exception of aliens resurrection of course....
AVP has astonishing storyline!!! i must admit...It laid down the basics of the AVP comics very well....
However, it was poorly constructed! The actors were bad....not memorable at all....didnt know how to act.....a female hero who suddenly got good and recognised as 'good' by the predator?? come on!!
Even arnie, billy, who were commandos got their ass kicked by predator. and this girl, a tour guide? with a predator? killing aliens. joke joke.
at least make it convincing that she's as tough as sigourney weaver...
and what the heck with two predators got owned by the same alien in less than 5 minutes?
I hope avpR will be gloriously good with the R-rated coming back up.
Just a note, Predator looks coolest in jungles....hands down....They look awkward in cities and south pole. Hopefully, AvPR will show theyre not awkward in a small town.
Ok, I just watched the movie and I give it B+! I was expecting a bad movie but, it turned out to be alright. I love the fact that in this movie there is one Predator and also the movie focused more on him. Their flashy technology rocks and I was very well entertained by them.
But I have one question that is really bugging me about the film....
Who is Ms. Y or the women in the very last scene?...Who is she? Was she one of two survivors in Predator I???
Loved the part when the girl gets killed with disk knives. Predator thoughts were: "Stick around"
If anybody knows, please let me know. Peace.
Weyland-Yutani is a fictional corporation in the motion picture Alien and its sequels, often referred to simply as "The Company". It is one of the corporations that runs the human colonies outside the solar system through the Extrasolar Colonization Administration, has a seat in the Interstellar Commerce Commission's Company Review Board, and also has a large presence on Earth.
Weyland-Yutani is consistently portrayed as exhibiting the worst aspects of corporate profiteering, and as being willing to sacrifice decency and human life in the pursuit of profit. In various portrayals of the Aliens' universe, the corporation has its hands in all aspects of space colonization and research. The corporation has consistently ordered its employees and agents to attempt to obtain living Xenomorphs so that they can be exploited as a biological weapon, of course, without regard for their lives.
Weyland-Yutani is a modern example of the longstanding trope of the evil megacorporation in science fiction.
There is really nothing remotely good about this movie. The Brothers Crap who directed this need to seek physciatric help immediately. Their sickness runs deep if they think for a moment this would rate even as a bad movie.
Horrible acting. Weak, stupid plot and their fetis with mutilating pregnant women shows they should be locked away. They are complete and retarded HACKS who have destroyed the franchise (I won't watch any movie these two sickos direct). This is, by far, rated below Alien: Ressurection and AVP. (both should get Oscars compared to this complete and utter piece of crap). Serves me right for rushing out to see it, I guess. I owe both my sons an apology for dragging them to see this piece of garbage.
STRAIGHT TO TRASH BIN and never hire these two morons again!
I enjoy movies. I remember the silent shock of the audience at the end of Alien. I remember the feeling I had at the end of Predator. I also remember the disappointment of Alien 3. At least they did not make the mistake of keeping the same Star too long with Predator 2. AVP was okay, too tame, too short. AVP-R is better, bloodier. There is little suspense. I was not expecting any. The Predator is simply a cleaner, getting rid of evidence, including humans that get in his way. I don't see an obvious sequal out of this one, not that this is the end for the AVP series. Of course, I am still hoping for another straight Predator movie and an Aliens 5--without Weaver. I will also look forward to an AVP3, especially if it moves into the future a bit.
I just finished watching AVP2 and I think it is about a B+. I didn't think I would care much for this but it was better than the first which I liked. It was a million percent better than that Cloverfield crap and 28 weeks later (the last two movies I rented which should have never even been made). I don't understand people and their ratings of movies today. If it is popular and garbage you'd give it an A, but if it is unpopular and GREAT you'll give it a D. Think for yourselves.
