“Blood and Chocolate” stars Agnes Bruckner (“24”), Hugh Dancy (“Basic Instinct 2,”) and Olivier Martinez (“Taking Lives”) and is directed by German independent film director Katja von Garnier (“Bandits”). The story takes place in modern day Bucharest and tells the tale of nineteen year old Vivian Gandillon (Bruckner), who has spent her life on the run from the truth.... that she is a werewolf. When her affections for a visiting American artist threaten to expose her family's secret society, she must choose between her love for an outsider and betraying the secret vows of her family.

Romance and thriller aren’t usually two genres that fit well together, but director Katja von Garnier is giving it a shot anyway by telling the story of a werewolf in love. No seriously. A hot, teenage, female werewolf falls in love with a human. She’s forced to choose between keeping her secret and the honor of her family, and falling head over heels in love. It sounds a little like Underworld’s sappy, retarded brother doesn’t it? In fact, it’s from the same producers.

Oh dear.. it looks dreadful.!!!! And trailers generally show the "best" bits. I read somewhere that audiences in cinemas across USA where trailer is being shown are bursting into laughter over it .Not a good sign

  1. Chi Says:

the trailer upsets me a bit, but then again im really rather excited. i love the book i mean ive red it 6 times -.- im happy there making a movie but the trailer was a little off.....im still being loyal to what my heart says and im going to see the movie and even if the people who made it fucked up the movie, the ook is better and there will be a day when some one makes a better Blood and Chocolate....even if it has to be me

  1. Shin Says:

I went to see Rocky Balboa last week. Before the movie they showed the trailer and not only were people laughing their asses off, but I heard numerous people asking what the fark this movie has to do with chocolate.

  1. Snez Says:

I'm so disappointed with this. Hollywood yet again screws up a really good book, changing it so much to the point where it's not even recognizable anymore. Ugh. Even though it breaks my heart, I'll still see it, even if it tortures me.

  1. Brittany Says:

As I watched the trailer and saw that it was from the producers of Underworld (a movie that I LOVE) I was upset becuase they use wolves....they're supposed to be werewolves....and the setting is all wrong. I still want to see it but i thought it would be more like the book so now i'm not to sure i'm gonna be happy seeing it. But I did love the book and i'm gonna read it again before i see it.

  1. Cheryl Says:

i am really really REALLY angered by this. i am a loyal book reader of Clauses' and especially of this book in preticular. i've read it so many times i could tell you the story backwards without even opening a page. but this? this just absolutly disgraces the meaning of the story. Anette should track down the "creators of underworld" and deliver them a good kick in the sack. from what i see the only thing the morons kept the same was the title (which is being found hilarious across the states because they don't even take time to explain the meaning of it in the trailer) and the names of the characters. there is no prophecy in the book only a title Viv wins by accident when she joind the Bitch's Dance by saveing her mother from Astrid.. and what the heck is with the flashey magical transformation into wolves? it is suppose to be a bone breaking change into creatures bigger than wolves with longer limbs and fingers... *sigh* i will be shocked if the ending remains as it is.. they have nodoubtedly decided "Viv needs to be with aiden because it'll make the crowd go aweee".. stop ruining good books

  1. AJ Says:

Was in it, and totally agree, the book is so much better! The film script was poor and managed to cut out any atmosphere and interesting characters, leaving a rather bland and boring slushy love story. The director was inexperienced but at least had spirit and belief in what she was having to portray from the script. The main positives are the wolves; Rafe and the boys, Astrid (They sadly sliced these characters down to the bare minimium, giving no relationship between Rafe and his mother or the boys and vivian); the DOP (director of photography) was fantasic, along with the set designers, and costume. Due to the DOP it should look good, thats if you haven't already fallen asleep or vomited out watching the love montage. Watch and support the good things!!!

  1. Jen Says:

We have to keep in mind that the book was intended for young adult audiences, while the movie seems to be based on a wider, more mature one. It should also be noted, Brittany, that in the book, they did transform COMPLETELY into wolves, or could stay locked in an in between state. As for the reference to chocolate, Shin, it is a comparision to trying to be more human by her denouncing her werewolf blood.

I, for one, am especially curious to see how the director and cast will change certain things to make the script for the more mature audience. I'm not saying that it will still be good, nor that it will be bad. Why not just wait and see what the movie is REALLY like once it comes out before just making assumptions. We have to keep in mind just how hard it is to make a movie, and how hard it is to stick to scripts based on books, especially something that would require as much special effects as this one.

Sorry, didn't mean for this to be so long, or to sound so snippity. All I ask is that you guys give it a chance to see it all the way through before scoffing at it.

  1. Jimmy Says:

WARNING TO ALL WHO LOVE THIS BOOK! IT WILL NOT, AND I MEAN NOT, BE LIKE THE BOOK IN ANY WAY. It's like they used to basics of the book to make a movie. If you love the book, like me, then DO NOT count on seeing the book you love on that big screan. You'll be extremly disapointed. Some people on RottenTomatos .com are holding a revolt or whatever, and you can sign a pitition or join a club. If they are gonna claim that this is the book we love, then they shouldn't just redo it and think that we won't notice!

  1. Diana Says:

I am also dissapointed by the preview. This is one of my favorite books of all time, which is saying a lot because I'm a twenty eight year old avid reader. I can deal with all the location changes(the book is set in the states) and most of the other nonsense if they just keep the ending the same. Oliver Martinez is a wonderful choice for Gabriel. He has an air of danger around him, even if he isn't the most masculine choice. I take issue with the whole prohecy/werewolf worsip thing they have going on. What's the point? It just clouds up the story. Someone should have told this director that the whole point of the book is not that love conquers all, but it's being true to who you are. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised, but I doubt it. Blood and Chocolate the book is so popular, in my opinion, largely because of that ending, and it would be an absolute disgrace to change it.

  1. Rachel Says:

Ok, what the hell. Seriously, i loved this book. i have had to buy 3 copies i loved this book so much. and then they butcher it making some f***ed up movie that has nothing to do with the book. i had to leave the room when i watched the trailor i was so pissed off. And if she doesn't go with Gabriel at the end i'm going to go to the ticket booth and demand my money back. SERIOUSLY! that was the best part, her finding that what she really wanted all the time was right in front of her. but no she's going to end up going with that pussy Aiden and seriously piss me off. It's like the took An american werewolf in Paris or An american wereolf in London, changed the setting and told the girls side of the story. if i wanted to watch that movie than i would, they didn't need to go off and make another one just f***ing like it. Ahhhh! so mad.

  1. Patricia Says:

whata hell she is not staying with Gabrille they shouldn't do the movie what they need to do is to do is read THE BOOK first and then do a MOVIE

  1. Elizabeth Says:

this sounds like a love story gone wrong... seriously...

my friend and i love the book and can't wait to see how horrible it is...

charlie hunnam should be gabriel, the girl isn't "sassy" enough, and the plot just looks bad... it should be called romeo and madam wolf cuz thats all it is... another forbidden love just new characters

  1. Teresa Says:

Ok so... first of all, they aren't technickly wolves. They are bigger then wolves as said so in the book. I've wanted to read the book for so long now and just finally got the book and finished reading it, and when i bought the book it had a sticker saying that it was a motion movie thing or whatever. Everyone kept seeing the previews and stuff adnI would miss them. So today I finaly get to youtube and watch the 'official trailor' or whatever and I am so pissed. They have aiden as some wimp whos an artest. last i knew he wrote poetry and went to concerts with the 'amobea'. The pack isn't choosing a new leader becasue its the seventh year or whatever. Its because they need to move becasue theyve spent too much time in one palce. Another thing is the setting. I don't mind tht they moved it some where else, its just to the point that its way to different to even be like what the book had. The directors need to read a book before they try to produce a film because even though people may think it is good,. You can't base it on a book then hae it have nothing in common with what its supposed to be based on. I alos idnd't see anything about the five or astrid and there was no church in the book. One other thing that pisses me off is that Vivvie is supposed to be the most beautiful person in her school, and i think they could have picked a better actress, no offense, but Aiden and the others at schoo,. the girls are supposed to be jelous and the boys are supposed to be shy and blush. I din't see anything about Rafe being with Astrid, and in the preview when she was kissed by aiden I don't remeber him being like that and her almost 'revieling' herself then. She revieled herself to him when she was at his hosue when aiden's sister and parents were away. I'm so fed up wtih the making of this movie I don't want to see it at all and I hope that a better, more dedicated director, someone like George Lucas (star wars) would write adn direct the play, because he sticks to the plot! I can't stand having something be so differnet from what I liked and having people not like it. Everyone will think that the book is liket his is they havent read it and if they do after they see the movie then they should get pissed too.

  1. brandon Says:

i read all the reviews on this page and they ll say the same thing and you are all very right by the trailer it has looked like they completely missed the piont but i ask you to hold your anger because they are probably tring to keep in the true story.all cards on the table if guys find out what the story is really about they might be less interested in watching it.tust me im a guy!!! i know everyone who read the book knows there is alot more than a horror story here.that would make some people not watch it. by hideing the true meaning they would get more people to watch it. then they would all find out it is a great story not just a horror movie

  1. Anna Says:

Thank you Teresa!! You've said everything I have been feeling since I rented the movie and watched it with my cousin. Within the first about 10-20 minutes of it I wanted to take it out and burn it. I got so mad watching it. I didn't go to see it in theaters because of the previews but I'd figure I would watch it so that I wouldn't have a miss conception about it but everything I thought was true. They changed it sooo drastically that it is a shame for them to say it is "Based off the book". I don't understand why they had to do that. It was an amazing story and really the effects would not be that difficult nor expensive. I HATE the movie and am terribly upset that most people will watch the movie and love it thinking it's like the book when it's not. It is absolutely nothing like the book at all. Many major characters were left out, including her mother and Rudy, and even the relationships of the characters were switched. Astrid was NOT Viv's aunt nor Rafe's mother and Gabe was not the father of Rafe. The werewolves mate for life unless his/her mate dies. Gabriel was not a bad guy in the movie and they way they portray him does nothing for the actual character. The happy ending with Viv and Aiden is bogus. He tries to KILL HER!! They leave that completely out because "people would rather see them be together." Who cares!?!?! The main audience of it would be the people who loved the book and they lost that whole audience because of how much they messed it up. If they wanted to make a movie about a werewolf being happy with a human they should have written their own story, which is pretty much what they did.
