Based on the best-selling novel, this is an epic fantasy-adventure about a young farm boy named Eragon whose destiny is revealed with the help of a dragon. Eragon, now a Dragon Rider, is swept into a world of magic and power, discovering that he can save or destroy an Empire.
Eragon is based on a book written by a teenager, and the story looks like exactly what it is. Sorry Eragon fans, the movie should be a lot of fun but let's not kid ourselves and expect anything more substantial. This isn't Narnia. I have a hard time buying that some dumb teenager can match up with the likes of C.S. Lewis.
The "Eragon" books are the usual fantasy stuff. A farm boy meets his destiny with the help of a dragon. Actually, that could also be the plot of The Neverending Story. Maybe they should add a little pink fur to their flying beastie and make him a Luck Dragon.
The whole Eragon plot sounds pretty hokey, but dragons have never been done right on screen and if this movie can at least do that, then it's going to be the movie to see this fall. Someone seems to have figured that out, because the film's latest trailer is all about showing off how completely kickass their dragon footage is. No talking, no posturing. Just epic music and a dragon flying, fighting, and breathing fire. It's fantastic. Give us more of that and audiences will walk out happy.
