Goon Synopsis
Not content with his job as a bouncer at a local Beantown bar and a bit of an embarrassment to his accomplished family, Doug Glatt (Seann William Scott) dreams of the kind of success enjoyed by minor league hockey goon Ross Rhea (Liev Schreiber). When a chance encounter with an on-ice thug leads to a bloody fist fight that Doug easily wins, the coach of the Halifax Highlanders sees potential in this mammoth sized man who is only hampered by his lack of any hockey playing ability and his brotherís old figure skates. Standing up to the taunts of the other players, Doug manages to join the team, and with the encouragement of his hockey obsessed best friend (Jay Baruchel) quickly becomes a rising star. Soon heíll have the opportunity to face off against Ross "The Boss" Rhea and perhaps finally land a girlfriend. Now - all he needs is to learn how to skate.

The Best Movies We've Seen In 2012 So Far The Best Movies We've Seen In 2012 So Far
Weíre gearing up for the fall film season, when studios stockpile most of their possible awards contenders. The last few months of 2012 should be crowded with valuable viewing opportunities, so we wanted to take a moment and reflect on the best films weíve seen so far this year. Hopefully, weíll spotlight a film you havenít seen yet, and, if so, inspire you to go hunt it down as soon as you can.

Seann William Scott Gets Violent In The Latest Goon Clip Seann William Scott Gets Violent In The Latest Goon Clip
The Michael Dowse directed comedy Goon released early On Demand last month, ahead of itís big screen release. As I rarely pass up the opportunity to watch a hockey movie, and as a fan of Jay Baruchel and Seann William Scott, there was no hesitation on my part to rent the movie through iTunes. I was not disappointed. In fact, the simple, but funny and strangely charming comedy may end up being one of my favorite movies this year.

Were Goon Posters Banned in Canada? Were Goon Posters Banned in Canada?
Here Baruchel, who co-wrote and co-stars in Goon, is in character as a loud and proud hockey fan and heckler. While other Goon promotional posters offer violence, and allude to "sex, drug and scorin' goals," this one drew ire. The posters had been up for two weeks before 38 of them were removed on Wednesday, the same day as the film's Toronto red carpet premiere. A citywide ban of the image now seems to be in effect.

Watch A New Trailer And Extended Clip From The Hockey Comedy Goon Watch A New Trailer And Extended Clip From The Hockey Comedy Goon
There's no reason not to be excited for Goon at this point. First, its a comedy about hockey, a subgenre that has brought us the awesomeness that is Slap Shot, The Mighty Ducks, and Happy Gilmore (to an extent). Next, the script was written by Jay Baruchel and Evan Goldberg, both of whom regularly prove themselves as two very funny guys.

Seann William Scott Spills More Blood In Red-Band Goon Trailer Seann William Scott Spills More Blood In Red-Band Goon Trailer
Totally new footage showcased in this second trailer, though both do a very good job of setting up Seann William Scott as a bruiser recruited by a hockey team to be their designated fighter. Jay Baruchel, Liev Schreiber, Alison Pil, Kim Coates and Eugene Levy round out the cast of this crude comedy, which looks like itís trying to live up to Slap Shot (a compliment, for sure).

Based on the new trailer for the Michael Dowse directed Goon, it looks as though Seann William Scottís character Doug Glatt will make up for in punching what he lacks in the ability to talk proper smack on the ice.

Red Band Trailer For Goon Wants To Knock Your Teeth In Red Band Trailer For Goon Wants To Knock Your Teeth In
Weíve got a hockey comedy that plays up the gameís violent nature to the point that itís almost portrayed as brutal slapstick; something reminiscent of the legendary Slap Shot from 1977. We also have that great underdog storyline of a guy who has never played the sport before but demonstrates a knack for some element of the game in other facets of life, in this case fighting.

Jay Baruchel And Seann William Scott's Goon Gets A New Trailer And Distribution Deal Jay Baruchel And Seann William Scott's Goon Gets A New Trailer And Distribution Deal
The Toronto International Film Festival is in full swing up in Canada and according to Cineplex hockey is a big player. Three films about the aggressively Canadian sport premiered last night, most notable of the group was Goon, co-written by Jay Baruchel, a name you be starting to recognize as the Canadian actor has made quite an impact in the past few years.

Seann William Scott And Liev Schrieber Get Bloody In First Goon Character Posters Seann William Scott And Liev Schrieber Get Bloody In First Goon Character Posters
When you consider the fact that Michael Dowse's Goon is about a team 0f muscle headed hockey players who enjoy beating the crap out of their opponents, it becomes obvious that the film will probably include a lot of blood, chipped teeth, and bruises. So why not include those aspects in the marketing?
