Two 75 minute horror movies written by Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez put together as a two film features. Including fake movie trailers in between both movies
Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino have teamed up on a movie by segments before, back when they were both newly famous. The movie was Four Rooms, and it was so successful that I bet unless you're a hardcore film nut (and good for you if you are), then you've probably never even heard of it. Hopefully Grind House will turn out as more than a blip. How can it not? There's a girl with a frickin machine gun for a leg in it. There's no way that can go wrong.
For Grind House, each director takes a 75-minute segment of the movie and does whatever the hell they want with it. As far as we can tell, there's no unifying theme except gore, grit, and a weird retro-style. This isn't science, it's grind house cinema in its purest form. Brains will splatter and gorehounds will giggle with glee.
Tarantino's half is called "Death Proof", and he's hired Kurt Russell to star as the driver of a car straight out of hell. Rodriguez's segment is a little more scattered, with a bigger cast running around in what looks like some sort of zombie movie. He calls his half "Planet Terror".
What we've seen so far makes Tarantino's previous gratuitous gore watermark, "The House of Blue Leaves" in Kill Bill, look like child's play. Limbs will be loosened and heads will fly. If that's your thing, get excited. If it's not, hope QT and Robert work enough of their usual sly style to justify all the bloody stumps.
