In "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," Harry returns for his fifth year of study at Hogwarts and discovers that much of the wizarding community is in denial about the teenager's recent encounter with the evil Lord Voldemort, preferring to turn a blind eye to the news that Voldemort has returned. Fearing that Hogwarts' venerable Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, is lying about Voldemort's return in order to undermine his power and take his job, the Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, appoints a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher to keep watch over Dumbledore and the Hogwarts students. But Professor Dolores Umbridge's Ministry-approved course of defensive magic leaves the young wizards woefully unprepared to defend themselves against the dark forces threatening them and the entire wizarding community, so at the prompting of his friends Hermione and Ron, Harry takes matters into his own hands. Meeting secretly with a small group of students who name themselves "Dumbledore's Army," Harry teaches them how to defend themselves against the Dark Arts, preparing the courageous young wizards for the extraordinary battle that lies ahead.
Those magical kids return with their obligatory authority figure adults in tow. Only they're not so little anymore and as the last movie proved, they're all well on their way to no longer being kids. Whatever plot lines director David Yates chooses to chase, it's essential that he makes following their slow bloom into adulthood a priority while at the same time avoiding the discussion of things like oh, say, condoms.
I'm not a huge fan of the last movie, but that's one thing that Goblet of Fire's director Mike Newell got right. The awkwardness of puberty, their newfound interest in the opposite sex. Watching these kids grow up on screen is what's most interesting about the Harry Potter series to anyone over the age of twelve, not their bag of magical tricks.
The seriesï new director, as mentioned above, is David Yates. With each new director comes a new, distinctive style. Thatï's a plus really, it gives every movie its own unique energy. But this is the first truly high profile film Yates has ever touched, and itï's certainly his first big-budget blockbuster. Since Columbus, that seems to be the route Warner Brothers is going with their Harry Potter directors. Both of the last two helmers had similar, low-budget resumes and its worked well so far. The real difference in Yates is that he's the Potter franchise's first British director. Odd when you consider there's not an American in sight when you check out the cast.
Expect more of the same from the fifth Harry Potter. Only Cuaron's movie, the third one, has distinguished itself from the pack as anything special. The rest have been entertaining but ultimately mediocre, and the sad thing is that Harry's hardcore fans seem to prefer that. Mediocre I suppose, is better than bad. The films have maintained a consistent level of quality, and thats more than most other long-running movie franchises can claim.

id like to watch the order of the phoenix coz im the big fan of daniel radcliffe and his movie
id also like emma watson, the way she speaks her language and the way she pronounce the word with british accent.............and when she wear her dress..........ahhhhhhhhh.........she is soooooooooooooooo fashionista..........id hope i can watch the movie early...........
Hey I think the next movie (Order of the Pheonix) will be awesome. I can't wait till they catch up with the books and make the sixth movie (Half-Blood Prince). I can't Beleive (********) dies. Well you didn't think I'd ruin it for you did you?
Harry's hardcore fans are, for the most part, more dismissive of the movies than anyone else. We get excited for the movies, we go to see them in droves and we talk about them for weeks... then we're over them and we go back to reading the books. Probably since the second movie, hardcore fans (at least, fans like myself) have given up on them being able to make a movie that comes even remotely close to the greatness of the book. So we accept the movies for what they are - something to give us the HP fix we need while we wait for the next book to come out.
All movies were absolutely GREAT!
Goblet of fire was awsome!
PoA was pretty good.
CoS was a little tiny bit dissapointing.
SS was awsome too!
OotP will be the best!
GO SEE IT!
(PS the pictures are cool, and I'm gonna see the trailer in november)
I can't wait until the 5th installment comes out. I've read the 5th book three times and have been dyeing to watch it ever since i finished the book for the first time. But i think that the 6th movie will be best, since that is my favorite book in the series..so far.
The only thing is why cut out so many good parts like movie 4 did. A Harry Potter fan will, would and could sit through 3 hours of movie just to have the story carried out to match the book.
Come on directors, don't stray from the origional plot, don't leave out important characters and if the movie needs to be 3 or 3 1/2 hours long.................make it so.
Us Harry fans can take it..........................
Can't wait for this movie to see if this director improved on what we are waiting to see or did the old cut and switch.
Either way I will watch it and it will go into my collection.
I love the Harry Potter films, i think there gr8 nd i lyk the books 2 but not as much as the films. Im a big fan of Daniel Radcliffe as well i think gr8, i absolutely adore him, im also gr8 fans of Emma Watson nd Rupert Grint i think they are cool nd funni 2 but as much as Daniel, sorry 2 disappoint u guys?! But come on u got 2 admitt Dan can sometimez be a lil bit better than u, dnt u think?! I CNT WAIT 2 SEE THE ORDER OF THE PHEONIX!!!!!!!!!!
I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE FIFTH MOVIE!!!!! i wish i had a time machine to make the wait go by faster, especially after i had that teaser thinking that it was coming out in july.
i just cant wait for the next movie to release . i'm dying to see it,i think its gonna be great as long as there is most of what the book contains is shown.i wouldn't mind sitting in the theater for 4 hours ,i just want him(director) to include everythin
I'm way to exicited!!!!im like obsesed with harry potter.yeah Im not shure if this is going to be the best one cos its an long book and the longer the book the more the cut oput of the movie i really thing that they should have 2 parts to the movie it would be much better.because youll get too see more.BUTTTTT this was my favorite book.althought im p**** about that person dieing.god.but yeah im super excited and to see hott rupert again geeez i love him.anyways im always there 2 or more hours earlier before the movie to be the first person there haha wich i always am.ha yay!!!!!!!!!!
I am in love with both the Harry Potter books and the movies. I watch the movies so much that I can resite them word for word. I am a little behind in the books... I just began the 5th. I agree that they did leave a lot of important stuff out in the movies... especially in the 3rd. But I've learned to love the movies as they are... great movies. Movies need glitter and magic and while us hard core HP fans would sit through 3 to 4 hours of a movie movie fans would not. I also respect the books greatly I can only wish I was that great of a writer. I cannot wait for the 5th one to come out, I can hardly wait for the trailor but I know that I will not be dissappointed. Emma, Rupert and Daniel bring the story to life. The combination of the two make you wish that Hogwarts was real.
I like the movies it's great to see what they take from the books and how they put it on screen. I do wish they would add more of what the books had in them. But the movies are good all the same.
This movie will be terrile. In the previous movies, theyv'e made it impossible to follow the events of the book because the Hollywood it up. Key elements will be left out, and it will be a displeasure.
I loved the book and I can't WAIT till the movie comes out! It might be really sad since ****** dies:( I hope that they don't miss out too many things though, like they did with HP and the GOF (thought it was brill!)
OMG!!! I love Harry Ptter movies and books. I can not wait untill it comes out!!!!! This is going to be the best movie of all time!!!!!! Hey it is goinng to be great because the longer the book the longer the movie!!!!
I am really excited about going to see it !!!!!
The books are great there is no doubt about that. The problem is with the producing and filmmaking. I have only seen photo's of the next film (Order of Phoenix) and Umbridge looks nothing like she should, not even close to a Toad. Warner Brothers has gone through 3 directors now from the first to 5th or 6th film and it shows. They knew fans would continue to love the way each film begins with mishaps at the Dursleys yet in the 4th film they cut it out. They pretty much skipped the first 60+ pages of the book.
In this fifth film if there are not huge improvements from the previous ones i think the Harry Potter Films will lose a lot of fans. I dont expect the movies to do the book complete justice because that is what makes the books so good, however they have the resources to make the films much better and they need to do so.
The next harry potter movie is not going to be as good as the book but as they have to shorten it so it will not be like 40 hours.Looking at the pictures i see that most of the peple dont look like the book discribes. like profesore umbrige come on she does so not look like a huge toad.
Psssh. It matters not to me if the movie is good as long as there is PLENTY of the beautiful Alan Rickman. *swoon* I swear that man is the foxiest lad on the face of this Earth.
I hope the 5th movie will be good coz i luv the book. But i thought the 4th book was wicked untill the movie came out witch spoiled it completely. The bit i wud luv 2 see in the new movie is when Harry and Cho are in da coffe shop.... (oh and da bit when Siruis dies! LOL!)
Harry Potter is the best fiction i have ever read. The movies are so realistic, i mean u actually feel MAGIC exists. I am so exited with the news that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is releasin... Man it's gonna be cool.
i've been looking forward to the next few movies .. i have all the books and i am looking forward to seeing how the next few movies come out ... my son is 4 and loves the movies
I agree with Kelly. I've given up. but the fourth movie is wat convinced me. I was tryin to follow and i was like, whoa, hang on, how did they get to maze already? Ah well, we still love them don't we. Am always excited to go see a Harry Movie, cuz i love to see the magic of the books , so to speak come alive. Also , it's awesome to see how the characters are growing. Remember the first movie? All merry and happy like? And then to me the third movie changed all this. It was dark and funnily enough it's the only Harry without Voldemort's appearance. It was my favourite book, and I find that the movie did it justice, atleast as best as any of the movies can hope to touch the books. I'm "dying" to see the newest film in true Harry fan design. Hopefully, I remember to go to the "loo" bfore the fim starts, (ahem, last time i held it all the way through) :) But i dont think am in any hurry to see the sixth book on screen, i still haven't quite stomached the whole Harry/Ginny thingy yet:( till then all we can do is hope this one is nice , long, and sticks to the script.
I am so EXCITED to see the next movie Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix!! i am a huge FAN of the BOOKS and the MOVIES!! i really hope that they don't cut out half the important stuff like they did with the 3rd and 4th ones because for me the 5th book is my all time favorite!! i enjoyed the 6th book but i was so sad when you know whos died that it short of ruined for me even though i am not convinced that you know who is really dead!
i really agree with Kelly and Gina in the whole idea that these movies will never live up to the greatness of the books not in a million years thats why i read all the series at least once a year just so ui stay up to date:)
i am still excited for the movie because my friends and i are indeed huge fans and when the movie comes out we will be the first ones in line and all dressed up in Harry Potter customes that is what we live for!
OOTP looks wicked sweet. GOF was pretty good too, but it should have been longer. OOTP will have to be like 5 hrs to fit everything in...but even if it isnt im still gunna see it like 500 times
I LOVED the 5th book (and the 6th but the 5th was better) and the movie is going to ROCK. i am so excited with all the love that goes on and im just so looking forward to watch this movie. i am also so in love with EVERYBODY in ALL of the movies. i always watch movies more than 6 timez in a week when i buy them and this movie im gunna watch it like 50 times im gunna love it so much.
love
the biggest harry potter fan like eva
kenzie
The 5th book is better, if the movies try to include the most of the events then it will be interesting and enjoying. wht we felt low in 4th part should be compensated by the 5th
I can't wait 4 the 5th harry potter movie i think its gonna be the best one ever unless the f****** directors dont cut out halv of the film like they did in the 4th one....still i cant wait till it comes out!
I cannot WAIT until the movie is out!!! I've never read a set of books better than the Harry Potter ones. I've read through the series seven times since I'm a fast reader and I can't stand it. The movies weren't the best before, and they cut out characters AND important bits in the last movie but I was at the movies a few days ago and saw the trailer and I was like OH MY GOD, cuz I remember seeing one of the REALLY important parts from DA. I looked up all the characters and they aren't what I expected but anyways, the movie I think will be awesome
I absolutley adore the Harry Potter movies; mainly to go and see the best part of each one: the twins! They, in my opinion, perpettually make the movie worth while. Now don't get me wrong. Daniel and Rupert are entirely, the stars of the whole shabang but it is James and Oliver (to me) who are the real phenomenon. But of cource, I will enjoy the movie just the same as Daniel, Rupert and Emma take the spotlight for the 5th year to come.
I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL THE 5th MOVIE COMES OUT (July 13, 2007)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i am SOO incredibly excited to see the next movie..hopefully they won't cut too much out like the last one. and of course, us harry fans know that the book will be better than the movie. but that usually happens anyways
i'm still excited though! counting down the days..
hi i am waiting for the release of harry potter and the order of pheonix.i am sure that i,ll watch it cause i,m a great fan of danniel radcliffe.i,ve watched all the four parts of harry potter on theatre an waiting for this fifth part.it will release in july-the month in which i was born and danniel radcliffe too.
I LOVE DANNIEL RADCLIFFE
dying to watch the movie
i am in love with the harry potter movies and if the 5th movie is as good as advertised on the internet i will buy everyone in the owen sound area tickets on opening night to see the movie!!! and thats a promise! and i like chicken if anyone has a good chicken recipe give me a holla my email adress is LJ_woody@hotmail.com and my aol instant messenger is BigBadWoody check me out!
i so enjoyed the movie seris thus far i am glad that seris has kept almost the same cast members together throught. of course i miss richard harrris his death was untimely and a great loss.
I cant wait till the seventh book comes out!! And plus it is on my birthday!!....but i really cant wait till the movie!...it looks sooo good!!...but i cant belive that sirius dies!!..i love Gary Oldman!!
Harry potter and OotP will ROCK!!!And the book is the longest in the series(to me).Harry potter really brings out the magic in the books and movies! But i think Voldemort (yuck) should die because of what he did to lily, james, frank, cedric and sirius! And btw Snape (ewww) kills ********** so sad..... but for now be happy about the 5th movie coming out july 13 07 and the 7th book coming out july 21 07!!!!
Well, i love the fifth book when i read it i cried much..so their is gonna be a flood when i go see the movie!!!lol..I am really hoping that they don't cross out half the movie like in the fourth book. I cannot wait for the fifth movie..it has such a tragic ending!!!
i think its going to be good. Did u hear that Emma Watson is gonna step out and get an university degree or something? Yeah, she is leaving the series. she said she is only held back by two things: the disappointment of the world, and the thought of withdrawing from stardom/harry potter forever. thats really sad? I feel bad for her. but the movie looks supurb and filled with adventure and stuff. I really can hardly wait!!
Maddy
I still don't really get why people think PoA was the best movie. In my opinion, it was absolutely terrible! Not only was half of the plot cut out to make room for close-ups of Hermione and "artistic" shots of trees, the characterization was absolutely awful. Since when does Harry cry like a little girl under his invisibility cloak?
HP is soooooo awesome!!! Both movies and books are totally the best! of course the books are a lot better than the movies, but i can't complain. knowing that if they tried to make the movies include everything that happened in the book, the movies would be like 4 hours long...and even though being a super HP fan, i would stay through and watch all of it, i'm not sure if many others would be willing to watch such long movies. of course there are the great actors (daniel, emma, and rupert) that make the movies awesome, and J.K.R, who makes the HP books incredible.
CAN'T WAIT FOR THE HP BOOK 7 AND HP 5 MOVIE!!!
Who said the hardcore fans like the movies this way? We know it's Hollywood's doing, so we're used to it..but don't think that we're happy about these movies by a long shot. This movie will be gutted, just like the last 3..
I think that the 5th movie is going to be the best so far ( I think they get better as they progress). But nothing can compare to the books, and I know you can't have everything in the movies (though I wouldn't mind) but they cut alot out of it. Harry has so much more depth, intellect, and courage in the books. Yet again, you also get to see the goofy, awkward, and shy in the books, and neither parts of his characters are portayed in the movies nearly as well as in the books. But I am going to see the movie anyways, so I can get my Harry Potter fix until July 21!!!
I cannot WAIT until the 7th book and the movie comes out! First, the book will be here, and then the movie! I am sooooo happy. I don't think that my poor little heart can take this much pressure. lol. But I really hope that the filmmaker did not mess this movie up. I hate how they leave the really good parts out and cut the book down to 200 pages. If they made the movie 4 hours, I think that I would be in heaven. I cannot wait! I wish that time would go a little faster. but I'm also upset over the fact that this will be the very last book and MAYBE they will die. So sad... :( but I'm sure that it will be THE BEST darn book that we will ever read. Whoo! I'm so pumped! I wish tonight is the opening night for the book to be released. I hope that the movie turns out great! I am waiting for the kissing scene with Harry and Cho Chang! That would be cool! MUAH! But no one gets Draco Malfoy OR Tom Felton.... haha jk! Well, hope that everyone reads the book and then goes out to see it!
whats up with the scene with Harry and Cho sucking face? It looks like Harry is trying to eat a burger, missed the first bit and tries to get more. I mean, Daniel's been in the buisness for a while, so dont you think he could kiss like a man. HAHAHA
I think that the HP book R AWESOME!!!! But the movies cut WAY too much out!!!!! I mean in #4 Winky wasn't even there!!!! thats SO stupid!!!! I think that they shouldn't make the movies different then the books!!! Like in the 4th one, the maze EATS the kids!!! & thats SO dumb!!! & Moody has a strap thingy holding in his eyeball whats that all about!?!?!?!?! I think its dumb!!!!! I think they should do the movie EXACTLY like the books except for the little things, but U can't change the BIG things!!! & the Dursley's had better B in #5 movie or that would B SO SO SO dumb!!!!! They weren't even in #4! OMG!!! & Dudley HAS to B in #5 or then how would Harry get in trouble!?!?!?!?! So MAKE THE MOVIES LIKE THE BOOKS AS MUCH AS U CAN!!!! O MY GOSH!!! ITS NOT THAT HARD!!!!!
Don't disapoint me the books R GREAT!!! :D
Cant wait for the fifth movie to come out.. It will start wed here in the states.. Very much enjoy reading the books learn something new each time.. Seen the movies plenty of time and play the games..
Watched the A&E special on sunday night.. Looks like it will be a very dark movie..
Third one is the best for me, i enjoyed it because you see more of Harry's personal side, learns more about true friendship and family.
Ok I have a very important question, Does anyone know any theatres that are showing HP5 at midnight on Long Island? I really want to go but i cant seem to find any information on it. Ive heard of people going so i know that its possible. PLEASE HELP!!!! Im desperate. Im like a huge POTTERFANATIC so i have to go. Thank You <3<3 :-)
I LOVE HARRY POTTER and I just read that it has been confirmed that Emma,Daniel, and Rupert will def. return for movies 6 and 7!! also schedule realease supposely will be 6-nov 2008 and 7 will be june 2010 or so they say but who knows either way I love harry potter!!!!!!!!!!!
It was an OK movie
I saw the movie last night
I read the book so I was a little down but not so much because I still have my books.
I understand the necessity for some changes and simple errors.
My book Fan grumbles are as follows:
Major Grumble
-Harry seeing into Snape’s mind (HA! Come On!)
-And the end they did not even have Dumbledore tell Harry the prophecy which they risked their lives for. Neville, the transfer of power, power of love, etc…
-Harry pulling out his wand in public threatening Dudley’s was not necessary and untrue (they could have had Harry talk aloud to himself about what he would like to do to Dudley and his mates) a waste of time just to let the movie watchers know Harry is having nightmare and is a hot blooded teen.
-Return to Hogwarts scenes were a waste of time because they do not do what the book does showing Harry’s feeling of madness and isolation
Minor Grumble not so important
-Ron and Hermione not having time for Harry because of prefects duties
-Harry’s deeper friendship with Neville (Luna was well covered)
-The DA members rocking their Defense Against the Dark Arts OWLs
-Harry pondering and questioning Sirius’ death and the veil
None of this matter because “The Half Blood Prince” is my favorite, they better not mess it up. The magic is off the hook. Snape is so pimp and Harry his ho. The movie better not try to make Harry have all this magical power the whole point is heart/power of love not magical strength.
I saw the movie this afternoon and I agree. It was pretty good, but they changed so many things around and missed so many important and good things that could have made the movie really awesome!
I would have liked to see more detail with the snake biting Mr Weasley, and Harry's occlumency lessons. Also, Harry was supposed to break into Snape's memory through the pensieve and he didn't. I was so excited for that scene! I really wanted to see James and Sirius picking on snape a bit more, and where was Lily?! I didn't see her. Was she there?
Sometimes I didn't understand what was going on... they should have put more about the ministry stuff going on and how much Harry hated umbridge. You didn't even get to see him shouting at Dumbledore, and there were soooo many other things that could have been better!
But I guess that did ok, it was pretty dark, and sad at the end. But I wish they explained that Sirius and Bellatrix were cousins, and had more stuff about Harry, ron, hermione, ginny and neville fighting those death eaters.
