In "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," Harry returns for his fifth year of study at Hogwarts and discovers that much of the wizarding community is in denial about the teenager's recent encounter with the evil Lord Voldemort, preferring to turn a blind eye to the news that Voldemort has returned. Fearing that Hogwarts' venerable Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, is lying about Voldemort's return in order to undermine his power and take his job, the Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, appoints a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher to keep watch over Dumbledore and the Hogwarts students. But Professor Dolores Umbridge's Ministry-approved course of defensive magic leaves the young wizards woefully unprepared to defend themselves against the dark forces threatening them and the entire wizarding community, so at the prompting of his friends Hermione and Ron, Harry takes matters into his own hands. Meeting secretly with a small group of students who name themselves "Dumbledore's Army," Harry teaches them how to defend themselves against the Dark Arts, preparing the courageous young wizards for the extraordinary battle that lies ahead.
Those magical kids return with their obligatory authority figure adults in tow. Only they're not so little anymore and as the last movie proved, they're all well on their way to no longer being kids. Whatever plot lines director David Yates chooses to chase, it's essential that he makes following their slow bloom into adulthood a priority while at the same time avoiding the discussion of things like oh, say, condoms.
I'm not a huge fan of the last movie, but that's one thing that Goblet of Fire's director Mike Newell got right. The awkwardness of puberty, their newfound interest in the opposite sex. Watching these kids grow up on screen is what's most interesting about the Harry Potter series to anyone over the age of twelve, not their bag of magical tricks.
The seriesď new director, as mentioned above, is David Yates. With each new director comes a new, distinctive style. Thatď's a plus really, it gives every movie its own unique energy. But this is the first truly high profile film Yates has ever touched, and itď's certainly his first big-budget blockbuster. Since Columbus, that seems to be the route Warner Brothers is going with their Harry Potter directors. Both of the last two helmers had similar, low-budget resumes and itďż˝s worked well so far. The real difference in Yates is that he's the Potter franchise's first British director. Odd when you consider there's not an American in sight when you check out the cast.
Expect more of the same from the fifth Harry Potter. Only Cuaron's movie, the third one, has distinguished itself from the pack as anything special. The rest have been entertaining but ultimately mediocre, and the sad thing is that Harry's hardcore fans seem to prefer that. Mediocre I suppose, is better than bad. The films have maintained a consistent level of quality, and thats more than most other long-running movie franchises can claim.

I saw the movie this afternoon and I agree. It was pretty good, but they changed so many things around and missed so many important and good things that could have made the movie really awesome!
I would have liked to see more detail with the snake biting Mr Weasley, and Harry's occlumency lessons. Also, Harry was supposed to break into Snape's memory through the pensieve and he didn't. I was so excited for that scene! I really wanted to see James and Sirius picking on snape a bit more, and where was Lily?! I didn't see her. Was she there?
Sometimes I didn't understand what was going on... they should have put more about the ministry stuff going on and how much Harry hated umbridge. You didn't even get to see him shouting at Dumbledore, and there were soooo many other things that could have been better!
But I guess that did ok, it was pretty dark, and sad at the end. But I wish they explained that Sirius and Bellatrix were cousins, and had more stuff about Harry, ron, hermione, ginny and neville fighting those death eaters.

It was an OK movie
I saw the movie last night
I read the book so I was a little down but not so much because I still have my books.
I understand the necessity for some changes and simple errors.
My book Fan grumbles are as follows:
Major Grumble
-Harry seeing into Snape’s mind (HA! Come On!)
-And the end they did not even have Dumbledore tell Harry the prophecy which they risked their lives for. Neville, the transfer of power, power of love, etc…
-Harry pulling out his wand in public threatening Dudley’s was not necessary and untrue (they could have had Harry talk aloud to himself about what he would like to do to Dudley and his mates) a waste of time just to let the movie watchers know Harry is having nightmare and is a hot blooded teen.
-Return to Hogwarts scenes were a waste of time because they do not do what the book does showing Harry’s feeling of madness and isolation
Minor Grumble not so important
-Ron and Hermione not having time for Harry because of prefects duties
-Harry’s deeper friendship with Neville (Luna was well covered)
-The DA members rocking their Defense Against the Dark Arts OWLs
-Harry pondering and questioning Sirius’ death and the veil
None of this matter because “The Half Blood Prince” is my favorite, they better not mess it up. The magic is off the hook. Snape is so pimp and Harry his ho. The movie better not try to make Harry have all this magical power the whole point is heart/power of love not magical strength.
I LOVE HARRY POTTER and I just read that it has been confirmed that Emma,Daniel, and Rupert will def. return for movies 6 and 7!! also schedule realease supposely will be 6-nov 2008 and 7 will be june 2010 or so they say but who knows either way I love harry potter!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok I have a very important question, Does anyone know any theatres that are showing HP5 at midnight on Long Island? I really want to go but i cant seem to find any information on it. Ive heard of people going so i know that its possible. PLEASE HELP!!!! Im desperate. Im like a huge POTTERFANATIC so i have to go. Thank You <3<3 :-)
Cant wait for the fifth movie to come out.. It will start wed here in the states.. Very much enjoy reading the books learn something new each time.. Seen the movies plenty of time and play the games..
Watched the A&E special on sunday night.. Looks like it will be a very dark movie..
Third one is the best for me, i enjoyed it because you see more of Harry's personal side, learns more about true friendship and family.
I think that the HP book R AWESOME!!!! But the movies cut WAY too much out!!!!! I mean in #4 Winky wasn't even there!!!! thats SO stupid!!!! I think that they shouldn't make the movies different then the books!!! Like in the 4th one, the maze EATS the kids!!! & thats SO dumb!!! & Moody has a strap thingy holding in his eyeball whats that all about!?!?!?!?! I think its dumb!!!!! I think they should do the movie EXACTLY like the books except for the little things, but U can't change the BIG things!!! & the Dursley's had better B in #5 movie or that would B SO SO SO dumb!!!!! They weren't even in #4! OMG!!! & Dudley HAS to B in #5 or then how would Harry get in trouble!?!?!?!?! So MAKE THE MOVIES LIKE THE BOOKS AS MUCH AS U CAN!!!! O MY GOSH!!! ITS NOT THAT HARD!!!!!
Don't disapoint me the books R GREAT!!! :D
whats up with the scene with Harry and Cho sucking face? It looks like Harry is trying to eat a burger, missed the first bit and tries to get more. I mean, Daniel's been in the buisness for a while, so dont you think he could kiss like a man. HAHAHA
I cannot WAIT until the 7th book and the movie comes out! First, the book will be here, and then the movie! I am sooooo happy. I don't think that my poor little heart can take this much pressure. lol. But I really hope that the filmmaker did not mess this movie up. I hate how they leave the really good parts out and cut the book down to 200 pages. If they made the movie 4 hours, I think that I would be in heaven. I cannot wait! I wish that time would go a little faster. but I'm also upset over the fact that this will be the very last book and MAYBE they will die. So sad... :( but I'm sure that it will be THE BEST darn book that we will ever read. Whoo! I'm so pumped! I wish tonight is the opening night for the book to be released. I hope that the movie turns out great! I am waiting for the kissing scene with Harry and Cho Chang! That would be cool! MUAH! But no one gets Draco Malfoy OR Tom Felton.... haha jk! Well, hope that everyone reads the book and then goes out to see it!
I think that the 5th movie is going to be the best so far ( I think they get better as they progress). But nothing can compare to the books, and I know you can't have everything in the movies (though I wouldn't mind) but they cut alot out of it. Harry has so much more depth, intellect, and courage in the books. Yet again, you also get to see the goofy, awkward, and shy in the books, and neither parts of his characters are portayed in the movies nearly as well as in the books. But I am going to see the movie anyways, so I can get my Harry Potter fix until July 21!!!
Who said the hardcore fans like the movies this way? We know it's Hollywood's doing, so we're used to it..but don't think that we're happy about these movies by a long shot. This movie will be gutted, just like the last 3..
HP is soooooo awesome!!! Both movies and books are totally the best! of course the books are a lot better than the movies, but i can't complain. knowing that if they tried to make the movies include everything that happened in the book, the movies would be like 4 hours long...and even though being a super HP fan, i would stay through and watch all of it, i'm not sure if many others would be willing to watch such long movies. of course there are the great actors (daniel, emma, and rupert) that make the movies awesome, and J.K.R, who makes the HP books incredible.
CAN'T WAIT FOR THE HP BOOK 7 AND HP 5 MOVIE!!!
I still don't really get why people think PoA was the best movie. In my opinion, it was absolutely terrible! Not only was half of the plot cut out to make room for close-ups of Hermione and "artistic" shots of trees, the characterization was absolutely awful. Since when does Harry cry like a little girl under his invisibility cloak?
i think its going to be good. Did u hear that Emma Watson is gonna step out and get an university degree or something? Yeah, she is leaving the series. she said she is only held back by two things: the disappointment of the world, and the thought of withdrawing from stardom/harry potter forever. thats really sad? I feel bad for her. but the movie looks supurb and filled with adventure and stuff. I really can hardly wait!!
