Little Miss Sunshine is the story of the dysfunctional Hoover family, taking a cross-country trip in a VW bus to get their young daughter into the finals of a beauty pageant.
Little Miss Sunshine was a smash at Sundance, and is getting buzz as this year’s Lost in Translation. Of course calling it this year’s Lost in Translation implies that a Lost in Translation comes along every year, and that just isn’t so.
The potential for something pretty cool is there though; the cast alone is good enough to justify a lot of interest in the project. Steve Carell can do no wrong and besides, it’s about time he branched out and away from big money blockbusters to a weird indie flick. He’ll make his money in the sequel to Bruce Almighty called Evan Almighty; here he’s trying something smaller and more intimate. Think of it as “The Office” in a little yellow Volkswagen bus.
