Official Plot Synopsis

Here's the official synopsis with some of the fat trimmed: The cocaine cowboys of the ’80s are gone, but Miami’s Casablanca allure, the undercover cops and the attitudes of Michael Mann’s culturally influential television series have been enhanced by time in the feature film version of Miami Vice. The cocaine cowboys of the ’80s are gone, but Miami’s Casablanca allure, the undercover cops and the attitudes of Michael Mann’s culturally influential television series have been enhanced by time in the feature film version of Miami Vice.

The television show started a host of bad fads, the movie looks to continue another by attaching to Hollywood’s string of unneeded TV to movie translations. But Miami Vice has something none of the other failed movies in its genre have had. His name is Michael Mann. Not only is he one of the series’ original creators, he’s also become one of Hollywood’s premiere directors since his show went off the air.

They’ve also got a good cast. Jamie Foxx has proven he works great with Michael Mann. Many feel it’s their last movie together, 2004’s Collateral, which should have won Jamie an Oscar over Ray. Colin Farrell is coming off a string of failures, and though he’s still recovering from the stinging belly of Alexander, the guy is still has talent.

The only thing really missing from Mann’s movie take on his fashion trendy 80’s television show is audience interest. We’ve outgrown out rolled up sleeves and pastel pants. Is anyone still interested in Miami Vice?
