 In the follow-up to the record-breaking smash 2006 hit Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, we find our heroes Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) allied with Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) in a desperate quest to free Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) from his mind-bending trap in Davy Jones' locker - while the terrifying ghost ship, The Flying Dutchman and Davy Jones, under the control of the East India Trading Company, wreaks havoc across the Seven Seas. Navigating through treachery, betrayal and wild waters, they must forge their way to exotic Singapore and confront the cunning Chinese Pirate Sao Feng (Chow Yun-Fat). Now headed beyond the very ends of the earth, each must ultimately choose a side in a final, titanic battle as not only their lives and fortunes, but the entire future of the freedom-loving Pirate way, hangs in the balance.  Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest may have been a massive financial success, but critically speaking the franchise took a nosedive going into its second film. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is director Gore Verbinski's chance to do more than make a lot of cash, it]s his last chance to return his piratical franchise to being good again. Let's face it, making money with these movies is easy. After the first movie was discovered by audiences (by some in theaters and others on DVD), there was such a hunger for more of Captain Jack Sparrow, that Disney could have shoved any old thing out in theaters and made insane amounts of money off of it. That's exactly what they did. The Pirates crew took a more is better approach to the second film and jam-packed it with so many special effects and so many fantastical new monsters that the things that made the first movie so much fun in the first place were almost completely overwhelmed by special effects. Pirates of the Caribbean stopped being a pirate movie and became animated monsters of the high seas. No one who's really a fan of the first movie wants that. They got away with it for one film, and pre-primed, easy to please audiences walked away happy. But they'll need to do more than throw a big bucket full of computer generated paint at the screen for the second movie. We've been there, done that now. At World's End is the franchise's chance to get back to focusing on what made this thing so great: Pirates. Not talking fish. Verbinski needs to buckle his swash and return to the world of high-seas scallywags we�re supposed to be knee deep in. The first movie balanced fantasy and swordplay capably, both found a place in the film. They can do it again, and the return of Captain Barbosa in the second movie should help them do that. The more pirates they add, the more giant McGuffin toting squids they can subtract. With Barbosa and his undead monkey back causing trouble, At World's End has a chance.
