Official Plot Synopsis

A contemporary take on Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" that explores the comic and romantic complications that ensue when a teenage girl poses as her missing twin brother for two weeks.
I'm a sucker for Shakespeare modernizations. For instance I love Baz Luhrman's oft maligned Romeo + Juliet. I'll take his DiCaprio weighted romance over Mad Hot Ballroom any day. Watching Shakespeare, in any form, always makes me feel somehow mentally superior to all the other shlubs traipsing in to see normal flicks. Actually though, it probably reveals me as something of a simpleton.
Shakespeare I'm told by smart people is overrated, and besides if I really want to watch proper Shakespeare I should probably be watching Branagh, not Mel Gibson's version of Hamlet. Alright, so I'm a simpleton. I can deal with it. But even a Shakespeare wannabe like me can't get excited about Shakespeare done by Amanda Bynes. I have my limits.
That's what She's the Man is, a modernized Shakespeare adaptation turned teen movie. Sometimes that works, but usually with a better cast and better intentions. Teenagers are a great fit with Shakespeare, they're usually just the right amount of angsty. But Bynes isn't so much angsty as she is cutesy. Shakespeare shouldn't come with a warm cuddly fuzzies and a cute button nose.
