A triumph-of-will story set in the diverse world of high school girls’ basketball -- and narrated by Ludacris -- the documentary chronicles seven years in the life of dynamic professor-turned-coach Bill Resler and his star player, Darnellia Russell.

Surprisingly not a teen drama starring lots of sit-com stars of the moment, but still managing to squeeze in an obligatory rapper, The Heart of the Game is one of those inspirational true-life documentaries no doubt designed to try and steer kids away from a life of sex, drugs and gangs and into more productive lives. Of course there will no doubt be tragedy, triumph and comedy. There will no doubt be tears, laughter and cheers.
But is there really a market for movies about a teenage girl basketball team? Granted I'm sure Hugh Hefner's made some money out of a few but those were entirely different movies. Seems that after the success of Michael Moore and Morgan Spurlock more and more documentaries are making the jump from TV (where many of them deserve) to the cinema. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
