Disney redoes their countertops with the plot from Madagascar.

There's only one word I can think of to describe Disney's new movie The Wild, and that's despicable. This movie makes Shark Tale look original. It was bad enough when someone sort of kind of took Finding Nemo's premise of CGI fish and turned it into a bad comedy starring Will Smith in which fish inexplicably used underwater elevators, but this is worse. Much worse.

The Wild is a blatant ripoff of Madagascar right down to its core. Zoo animals living in a New York Zoo who come to life when the crowds leave? Check. Mission into the city to find one of their missing friends? Check. Cowardly Lion? Check. Awkward Giraffe? Check. Crazy scenes involving an animal hi-jacked Ocean liner? Triple Check. There's not an original moment or thought in the entire trailer. The only thing that makes this movie even slightly different from Madagascar is that they have a Koala.

Now you’re probably wondering… wait a minute, which one went into production first? Maybe Madagascar is the real ripoff here. Irrelevant. Though there’s been talk that they’re both based on the same pitch, or that The Wild went into production first, the reality of this is that Madagascar got it done first. That leaves The Wild out in the cold. Once Disney (or whoever it is that’s making this thing for Disney) saw that Madagascar was going to beat them to the punch, the film should have been shelved, or relegated to Disney’s extensive straight-to-video collection. Releasing this in theaters with a Disney stamp of approval accomplishes nothing, except to make Disney look really really bad.

Um, just sec here. Have you actually seen the movie yet?

I must say, this is a great trailer review. I didn't know there was a such a market.

The movies a very different. And *I* have seen both.

  1. Pre View Means BEFORE viewing Says:

You've made yourself seem very dumb.

  1. Dustin Says:

That's a pathetic dismissal for something you haven't seen

  1. Miktar Says:

Disney fires animators, animators go over to Dreamworks and thus, Madagascar is born (done faster, with a lamer plot).

Frankly, Dreamworks has a reputation of putting out crap movies and focusing more on hireing big-name actors to do voices, instead of putting in time and effort to create a heartfelt movie. (Madagascar, Shark's Tale, etc).

Sure, The Wild may look like a Madagascar rip-off to people who want to quickly get popular by lambastic Disney (such an easy bandwagon), but to the rest of us who arn't instantly judgemental - The Wild looks like the movie Madagascar -should- have been.

It's not easy being a critic and making a name for yourself, I know - but doing something so common as to draw an -obvious- parallel, then running with it before thinking it over: sad.

  1. Dennis Says:

I own both movies, and yes the Wild is a big rip off of Madagascar, even my two year-old daughter recognizes the similiarites.

I like both movies, but I don't like when people attack either Disney or Dreamworks, both are great companies that put out good products. If I am mistaken, correct me, but didn't Dreamworks come up with CGI movies like Nemo under the wings of Disney and then separated? Uh....Yes, they did.

I like the Wild since it was the voices of Keifer Sutherland (aka Jack Bauer on 24) and Jim Belushi (a great musician and brother of a late SNL star). It also has Putty from Seinfeld... whatever his name is.

AND it has William Shatner. What I am wondering is what stuffed animals they are going to come out with.. doesn't the lion look just like the Lion King and Narnia lion?

The squirell looks just like the one in Over the Hedge and the Giraffe looks like the one in Madagascar. The only difference is the Koala... Eddy Izzard does a good job with this, and I like the evil smile.

The best dudes are the Chamelions.. spoiler here.. they are the instinct that the lion sees.

  1. LucasJodokast Says:

the very name "The Wild" sent rippoff waves through my head the first time i heard it and then after seeing the trailer it doesnt take a genius to figure out its a rip off of madagascar, I mean come on youd have to be pretty slow not to think something similar
