America loves Cox! But behind the music is the up-and-down-and-up-again story of a musician whose songs would change a nation. On his rock ‘n roll spiral, Cox sleeps with 411 women, marries three times, has 22 kids and 14 stepkids, stars in his own 70s TV show, collects friends ranging from Elvis to the Beatles to a chimp, and gets addicted to – and then kicks – every drug known to man… but despite it all, Cox grows into a national icon and eventually earns the love of a good woman – longtime backup singer Darlene (Jenna Fischer).
John C. Reilly stars in a big-budget parody of big-budget musician biopics. What sets it apart from the lousy, parody stuff we’re used to getting is the cast. Come on, John C. Reilly wouldn’t do it if it was The Comebacks.

who the hell is this guy???????? is hollywood running out of ideas??????? i'm sure that there are much more interesting, and probably much more higher grossing ideas out there. this one just might tank.
If you had watched the trailer Jed, you would have noticed this film is a parody.
It is a parody of musician movies, especially Walk the Line (the one about Johnny Cash).
At the same time, I think it's also trying to be it's own comedy much like Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
Did you know who Ron Burgundy was before that movie? Most likely no.
jed says: "who the hell is this guy???????? is hollywood running out of ideas???????"
First, jed, "this guy" is not a real guy. Dewey Cox is a fictional musician parodying movies like Walk the Line, Ray as well as taking real life experiences from well known musicians such as Johnny Cash and Elvis.
As for "hollywood running out of ideas" I beg for you to reconsider when speaking about this movie. Writer/Producer of Walk Hard Judd Apatow is considered the king of successful comedies these days. Perhaps you've heard of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Knocked Up, Superbad... should I continue? I'm pretty sure with Judd Apatow's comedy film success track record and Apatow's backing this film as a writer and producer, this film won't "just might tank," as you so eloquently stated.
Also, I agree with you GodNnelg, this film will probably make Dewey Cox a well known fictional character, and the movie should be chock full of quotable quotes... much like Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
Plus, you gotta love Jenna Fischer getting her due by co-starring in this film. Pam Beesley, you've come a long way!!
BTW: There really is a Dewey Cox - I am married to him. And he hung around Galveston in the mid-60's. Can't wait to see the movie to see what else seems familiar.
