Synopsis
Tom McCarthy, acclaimed writer/ director of The Visitor and The Station Agent, explores the allegiances and bonds between unlikely characters with a lighter touch in his new film. Struggling attorney Mike Flaherty (Paul Giamatti), who volunteers as a high school wrestling coach, secretly takes on the guardianship of an elderly client in an attempt to help keep his practice and his family afloat. When the client’s teenage grandson runs away from home and shows up on his grandfather’s doorstep, Mike’s life is turned upside down. A win-win arrangement turns into something much more complicated than he ever bargained for. McCarthy’s deft touch balancing drama and comedy, broken hearts and poignant humanity is at play in Win Win.

Win Win Blu-Ray To Wrestle Wallets In August, Seek It Out

I’m a sucker for Eminem references and Melanie Lynskey, which both appear in Win Win so I’ve done my best to promote the film. The only other card I have up my sleeve is its DVD and Blu-Ray release date and special features list, courtesy of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Win Win streets on August 30....

April 15 is my dad's birthday, so it's a date that always has a special spot in my calendar (Hi Dad!) But as it turns out today is a surprisingly momentous date in world history, boasting a number of famous birthdays, two huge tragedies, the end of an actual war and the beginning of one restaurant's metaphorical war against global health...

Interview: Tom McCarthy Embraces Sports, Comedy, And Suburbia For Win Win

I talked to McCarthy about his decision to tell a sports story when the genre has been done to death, about revisiting wrestling, the sport he himself played in high school, and about making his movies about the fundamentally decent people he believes are everywhere...

Tom McCarthy's Win Win Goes To Fox Searchlight

Tom McCarthy's Win Win Goes To Fox Searchlight

It sounds a little too treacly and a little too much like The Blind Side, but then again, the notion of a movie about a white college professor whose life is changed by a Muslim street musician was pretty awful too, but The Visitor was outstanding...

Tom McCarthy Scouting New Jersey Wrestlers For His Next Film

While it seems Giamatti will still have a role in the film, the lead character will be a scrawny high school wrestler inspired by McCarthy's own childhood-- and the director is going to New Jersey wrestling matches to try to find the perfect kid...

Paul Giamatti May Team Up With Tom McCarthy Next

Giamatti has a way of shining in pretty much anything he does, and McCarthy has a way of getting great performances out of actors in tiny movies, so there's really no reason not to root for this to happen...
