Favorite characters, including Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Padmé Amidala, are on the front lines of an intergalactic struggle between good and evil, along with brand new heroes like Anakin’s padawan learner, Ahsoka. Sinister villains – led by Palpatine, Count Dooku and General Grievous – are poised to rule the galaxy. Stakes are high, and the fate of the Star Wars universe rests in the hands of the daring Jedi Knights. Their exploits lead to action-packed battles and astonishing new revelations.

Star Wars as a cartoon? Why not. The past two movies were almost entirely animated anyway. The only thing real in Revenge of the Sith were it’s handful of human actors, and even then they were mostly done with computer animation, except in close up shots. It’s only natural that George Lucas’s obsession with computer animation and complete inability to do anything that isn’t related to one of his existing franchises would lead to this, the first ever animated Star Wars movie.

As a bonus for Lucas, the movie is really just a way for him to launch his first post-prequel Star Wars television series. After the film, The Clone Wars will kick off on the Cartoon Network as a weekly series. Lucas loves corporate synergy, and he loves taking your money. Star Wars fans are bound to dish it out happily, for this or anything else with lightsabers in it. If they’re lucky, in addition to making George Lucas even richer Star Wars: The Clone Wars may even be good.

Computer animated action movies can work, if they’re done properly. Brad Bird proved that with The Incredibles, one of the best animated movies ever made. Lucas, apparently hasn't it seen it or is simply too blinded by his flannel to recognize its greatness. In a recent interview he said, “I didn’t want it to look like The Incredibles.” If it looks even half as good as The Incredibles, Star Wars fans should consider themselves lucky. Right now the bar has been set by Brad Bird. Even if The Clone Wars is lives up to its fun potential, the best Lucas will probably be able to manage is a limbo.

  • The hand drawn animation was brilliant, incredibly cinematic. The 3D stuff looks terrible and much too visually chaotic.

You want to know the intention? $$$. It's that simple.
  • I can't understand the intention of this. This fully computer animated and created movies will lack the charme, which was also badly missed in the newer Episodes most of the time. If it's not entirely real, it has to be charming, exactly like Genndy's version on Cartoon Network was. And this is the second thing I can't understand: The Clone Wars-Story was told brilliantly by Genndy and could be expanded by using Genndys approach in a great way. Sometime the feeling comes to my mind, Lucas never really understood, what made his first really movies so successful AND classics.
