Ghost Rider Synopsis

Based on the Marvel character, stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze gives up his soul to become a hellblazing vigilante, to fight against power hungry Blackheart, the son of the devil himself.

Nic Cage finally gets to play a superhero. Thank god it isn't Superman. Anyone else remember that? No? Good for you. I can still remember my panic over that Superman movie casting. Yes, folks, at one point Nic Cage was signed up to play Superman. I know, it makes no sense.

But the guy is nearly as obsessed with superheroes as he is with Elvis. He's been attached to every superhero movie project ever in development, and now he's finally landed in one. At least it's one that nobody cares if he screws up. It's also potentially a good fit for him, unlike Superman or any of the others he tried to cast his way into.

Is the concept all that interesting? No, not really. It kind of has that Spawn vibe, and that's not a good thing. Still, the presence of Nic makes it worth giving a chance, if only to see the guy finally living his dream. It's not quiet Clark Kent, but it'll have to do Nic.

Ghost Rider 3 Is Dead, Ghost Rider And Blade Belong To Marvel Again Ghost Rider 3 Is Dead, Ghost Rider And Blade Belong To Marvel Again
Though Marvel Studios, in partnership with Disney, is setting up a seriously impressive cinematic universe, there are some major hurdles on the way to getting the giant superhero team-ups that fans might dream of. Before Marvel started producing their own films, they sold the rights to their characters to various studios, some of whom spun out their own huge franchises-- Sony and Spider-Man, Fox and X-Men plus The Fantastic Four-- and some of whom suffered disappointing flops....

Ghost Rider Creator Loses Legal Battle Against Marvel Ghost Rider Creator Loses Legal Battle Against Marvel
It basically comes down to the fact that Friedrich was freelancing for Marvel at the time, so while he did create this incarnation of Ghost Rider, he did so specifically for, and while under the employ of, Marvel Comics. Judge Katherine B. Forrest said that Friedrich was working for Marvel in a "work-for-hire" capacity, and that Friedrich "conveyed by contract to Marvel all rights" to the Ghost Rider character, both when he originally created him and when he signed a new contract with Marvel in 1978....

Ghost Rider Spirit Of Vengeance Trailer: Watch Nic Cage Piss Fire Ghost Rider Spirit Of Vengeance Trailer: Watch Nic Cage Piss Fire
Obviously, this looks like no comic book movie we've seen before, and Neveldine and Taylor's trademark gonzo camerawork is in full display, with that fiery chain whipping around, Ghost Rider's motorcycle running directly into the screen, and other camera tricks that I can't even name but can tell what a difference they make...
