The deck was stacked against X-Men: The Last Stand right from the beginning. First Bryan Singer left the franchise rather suddenly, abandoning it to direct Superman Returns, forcing Fox to scramble for a replacement. They settled for the questionable Rush Hour director Brett Ratner. Then as if to get revenge on Singer, Fox decided to rush the third X-Men movie into production, determined to put it in theaters before Singer’s Superman film, though Singer’s film had a several month head start on them. Throughout its frantically hurried journey to screen, The Last Stand has been plagued by depressing rumors about the nature of the script, the skills of its director, the cast, and the amount of money Fox was willing to spend on making it. Let’s not forget too, 20th Century Fox’s insistence that they’ll never make another X-Men movie, no matter how well this one turns out and though the X-Men’s universe is rich with untold stories and un-mined characters. It doesn’t help either that the film follows up X-Men 2, easily one of the best superhero genre movies ever to hit any screen. So it’s something of a surprise that Ratner’s take on the X-Men universe isn’t a total disaster. Sabotaged by the studio right from the beginning and ditched by the guy who made it great, that’s what X-Men: The Last Stand ought to be, a complete cinematic travesty. But it isn’t. Instead it’s a mildly entertaining action movie that relies almost entirely on big set pieces to carry the day because frankly, Brett Ratner isn’t capable of anything heftier.
When all hell breaks loose and the super humans in X-Men: The Last Stand finally go at it, audiences will love it. Yet there’s a lot of screen time to get through before getting there, spent with Ratner fumbling about in a pale imitation of the social relevance of Singer’s X-Men 2. The story this time around revolves around a mutant cure. Science has found one, but does anyone want it? The mutant master of magnetism Magneto (Ian McKellen) stands against it, rallying other mutants to his cause and declaring war on a world that wishes to take away what it is that makes them special. The X-Men stand between him and the human race, not because they necessarily disagree with him, but because they hate to see him kill everyone off.
While the world wrestles with whether or not mutancy is a disease, the depleted X-Men must also deal with an inexplicably resurrected Jean Grey (Famke Janssen). She’s not the same; she returns changed and quite simply, very pissed off. Professor X (Patrick Stewart) calls this new Jean "Phoenix" and explains her murderous rampage as her once caged subconscious set free to unleash the true potential of her power. To keep her from killing everyone we care about off, they’ll have to re-cage the beast inside if they can. If they can’t, they’ll have to kill her before she kills them. While the X-Men plan, Jean does a lot of standing around with Magneto, saying and doing nothing.
As a plot device, a cure for mutancy is a good one, something that presents plenty of opportunity for juicy relevancy as mutants wrestle with whether or not to give up their uniqueness for a chance at societal acceptance. Jean Grey’s resurrection as Phoenix presents similar, if more personal challenges for the film’s characters. The opportunity for something deeper is right there in front of Ratner, but he never grabs on to it. Only Ian McKellen’s Magneto grasps the implications of what’s happening, the rest of the cast seems more interested in hanging out at funerals or giving weepy advice to one another.
There are a great many speeches in X-Men: The Last Stand, but big speeches are not character development. Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is the worst offender in this regard. The gruff, independent, untouchable man of few words from the previous films has been whipped, tamed, and turned into a windbag. He’s lost almost all of whatever it was we liked about the character. In the place of the Wolverine we knew is a weaker, caring, romantic, team first version. If Wolverine were re-written for a romance novel, I imagine this is what you’d get. Wolverine shouldn’t be a caring father figure or a dashing romance icon. Sure, he still smokes cigars and there’s a great sequence where he rips to shreds a few of Magneto’s henchman. But those are all surface decorations. Jackman plays him soft and cuddly, and soft is not what we want or expect from Wolverine. Ratner substitutes snappy one-liners and grandiose speeches for whatever used to be Wolverine’s personality.
Amidst all of this The Last Stand introduces a slew of new characters to replace the unceremoniously departed ones. For instance you’ll see no sign of Nightcrawler, Fox simply didn’t want him. Cyclops (James Marsden) disappears early, and even Professor X’s role is limited. Enter Beast, a furry blue mutant with a big brain and impressive super agility. He’s played with brilliance by Kelsey Grammer, who normally wouldn’t belong anywhere near a superhero movie but in this case fits the character perfectly.
Also stepped up are the characters of Iceman (Shawn Ashmore), Pyro (Aaron Stanford), Kitty Pryde (a girl who walks through walls), and Colossus. They don’t always say a lot, but they’re there in the thick of the fight. You’ll get to see them showing off their powers, and that’s good enough. Further filling the void is Halle Berry, whose Storm has now become the franchise’s central character and the X-Men’s leader. She’s still the series’ least interesting X-Man, but give Halle some credit: This is by far her best performance in any of these films. It doesn’t hurt that Storm gets plenty of opportunity to show off. Last Stand blows a good portion of its effects budget on making her fly, shoot lightning, and engage in a pretty eye-popping spinning-tornado attack.
What I’m trying to get across here is that X-Men: The Last Stand has all the subtlety of a baseball bat to the nuts. The script pays lip service to deeper themes, but doesn’t actually have any kind of real complexity in it; or if it does Brett Ratner doesn’t have the necessary complexity in himself to bring it out. If you’re going to enjoy this movie, you’ll have to do it on a strictly big-blockbuster, summer movie surface level. The first two X-Men movies were better than that, this one isn’t. This one was unfairly rushed, and it shows in every single frame of the film. The plot leaps around from character to character, never giving anyone or anything more than a cursory examination. The effects are impressive and a lot of fun, but even those look as though they could have been still more impressive with a month or two of extra work. Even with this script and this director, had Fox given them more time to make the best movie possible, its easy to see that X-Men: The Last Stand could have been something better. As it is, this is a barely adequate spectacle movie which I think audiences are going to enjoy and instantly forget. Ratner tries desperately to mimic the style and substance of Singer’s movies, but imitation is all it is.
Perhaps what’s most galling about X-Men: The Last Stand is that it’s so full of flat melodrama that it’s hard to work up much passion for it one way or another. They’ve completely squandered the amazing potential for a third film set up by Bryan Singer at the end of X2. They’ve utterly wasted one of the best storylines ever in the history of comic books in the form of Dark Phoenix. The film completely throws away the other best storyline in the history of comics by throwing us ten seconds of Sentinel hidden behind a dense fog on in the middle of a computer generated war re-enactment. This is a movie that tosses out everything the previos two movies have been building, and most of the character's previous personalities too. But from none of that will make you angry. It’s a movie without emotion. It can’t connect with the audience emotionally, positively or negatively. Beloved characters are killed with little consideration, as if to make room for someone who costs less money, and the best you’ll be able to muster is a resigned sigh over what a waste it all was. X-Men: The Last Stand isn’t a bad movie but it is a terrible waste of potential.
As an aside, if you’re really interested in seeing the biggest fuck you that X-Men: The Last Stand can throw at you, stick around after the credits for a brief, disappointing bonus clip that throws away everything you’ve just spent the past two hours watching to set up a sequel that 20th Century Fox insists it will never allow to happen. Or just download it off the internet somewhere. It’s not worth the wait.

Saying this is Halle Berry's best performance doesn't exactly ease my mind, seeing how bad the other two were. She really doesn't have anywhere to go but up.
The connection has been made before, but if we take X-series in the context of the original Star Wars trilogy, the similarities are striking.
the first x-men set the stage. it introduces the characters, had some great moments, and was very exciting at the time it came out. it helped launch the comic book movie revival.
X2, much like the empire stirkes back, took the story to a new level, explored characters while introducing a few new ones. it's the movie that defines the series, but couldn't have been made without the first. (jean grey even interruptes a kiss aboard the x-wing ala C3P0)
X-men: Last Stand sounds much to be like return of the jedi. filled with huge set pieces and excitement, but does nothing to movie the story forward. however, if i see an ewok in the forrest when wolverine is running around, i will declare it better than any of the other two.
in retrospect, the solid beginning and strong second movie will make up for any shortcomings in the view of the trilogy. (at least these are my predictions)
I've heard this Star Wars trilogy comparison from a couple of people now and I just don't think it fits. X3 isn't good enough to be compared to Return of the Jedi on any level and X-Men isn't good enough to be compared to A New Hope.
Plus, as much as Fox likes to scream that it is, this isn't really a trilogy. It's a movie and two sequels. It's not really all one continuous story arc the way a true trilogy like Star Wars is. It's only being called a trilogy because Fox thinks that's a good way to market it.
although it doesn't follow a story arc, that doesn't mean it isn't a trilogy. Look at the Three Colors Trilogy. surely, these films are linked thematically - dealing with a "problem." the first film being the registration, the second being force and the third being the cure.
whether or not this is comparable to return of the jedi has yet to be seen by me. given ratner's track record and your prowess, i'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
the comparison in trilogies is more of a figurative comparison rather than literal.
My god, what did hollywood do to the my beloved X-Men. I have been a fan for nearly 40 years now, and for good or bad, and the many story lines that evolved, there was only one real hero to me, Cyclops. "Slim" Summers and he was called in the Uncanny X-men #1 back in 1963, was killed of by those Hollywood morons for no real good reason other than he couldn't pull his personal shit together over Marvel Girl (which by the way, she was never called), Jean Grey. I could stand the license that some of the earlier movies took, but from the beginnig, they downplayed Cyclop's role in the X-men tooooo much. One of the most visually active members, his optic blasts were more of a novelty that sometimes appeared just to show that he could do it, than the real power that I had been acustomed to over the years. The pheonix plot was badly played, as it never was a second personalty, but a seperate force that posessed Jean for time then was eventually vanquished (long story short) and her and Scott continued on, not both dying in some kind of hollywood foolishness. Other mutants like Magneto, who controls magnetic fields, not just metal, and Colossus, he is a Russian, not an american, ah well I could go on but you get the picture. All of this could of been forgiven, if not for the Jean-Scott f*** up. I could go on and on about the mutant errors, but the "love" story plots really did this movie in, they should of been placed in the toilet and left there, and more emphasis given to keeping with the characters originality, and truthfully portraying them as the interesting personalities that they were and have been for the past 43 years. When they finally get all the members of the original team together, they kill off three of them, and make some lame attempt to resurect one in the end. I loved it, and I hated it too, I was happy and sad for myself, but more sad for the many people who saw this, and didn't know how badly hollywood dismanteled one of the greatest stories ever told in comic book forms. I'll buy the movie when it comes to DVD, but it won't have the special place in my heart that those old pieces of paper that kept me mesmorized for years. I do wish that they could do another movie, and right the wrongs that were perpatrated on the X-Men, but I fear if they do, they just might make things worse.
I totally agree with VIDPRO -
Hollywood totally missed out on a huge chance to cash in on these great Marvels storie lines.
Killing off basically the foundation of the X-men in this movie does not leave Fox much room for accurate sequels for fans like us to enjoy. The Phoenix and the Sentinel stories are both huge potential box office attractors that we were teased with, and then denied - Fox basically shot themselves in the foot and screwed the true fans at the same time.
Did anybody else notice that they completely failed to focus on Professor X's relationship with his half brother Juggernaught(Cain Marco)? they could at least showed acknowledgement emotion - tension?
So many technicalities- that would not had taken much effort to acknowledge - but they choose not to- i guess who else is to blame other then the writers?
Although i disagree about Wolverine's character- i think he needed that maturity and character development.
I hope they come out with a sequel- saying that (last stand) was all a dream in Logans head or something to make up for this mistake of a movie?
totally agree with vidpro. Whilst x3 was a thoroughly entertaining film, the studio completely underestimated the x-men potential and screwed up one of the best ever stories published in the world of comics.
the third film should have finally dealt with magneto as well as introduce the sentinals as part of the "mutant cure", whilst continuing to set the plot for the phoenix/jean grey story. The phoenix saga should have been the fourth film in the series.
such a pity
Well, I have to say that this movie wasn't as good as it could have been. But I do hope they decide to do the 4th one. I think that maybe if they do, if they can get Singer back, they can not only save the entire story but also hit us with one hell of a movie. Even if they did sort of screw up this movie, there is still a lot of potential for the 4th. I just hope they're able to get the actors together to do it.
I hate what they try to portray. After I wacthed it, I said to my friends, my brothers are going to hate because they killed too much of the characters...Professor X died? He's like the master mind of all X men, he's the x-man himself, able to predict things to be replaced by who? By storm, the x's is off for a bad way...Hopefully there will be fourth one, like someone say hollywood could say it was a dream, or that their all the ones that were shoot by the guns could gain their powers back, it would've be cool to see mistik and magneto on a fight by clooning him. Remenber how at the end he moved the checkmate thing without moving it, there might be a fourth, at least I hope. So they can repair this horible damaged.
x-men rocks I loved all 3 movies and whos to say they wont be a 4th one out their one day
You all know it might come true since Eric aka magneto has no powers and that Mystique is human now since she was hit by the cue for mutants....I hated it when they had KILLED most of the people in the movie that was not supposed to be dead but had died anyways and WTF why did they had to kill off Cyclops what was the point and amough others that had died or either lost their mutant powers...
I missed the ending of the Credits where they had said that Charlas had lived But now I know they might come out with a 4th one to get this all straighted out
ok basically fox is just tryign to milk money out of teh series and not for i second do i believe that there wont be a 4rth one. OK acouple things make me think this first the thing with proffesor x and also magnito getting alittle of his powers back so basically here is how its gonan go rogue mystique and magnito gonna get there powers back we are gonan find out that scott isnt dead (just my opionion casue they didnt even slightly explain what happend to him they jsut like u killed scott omg!!) so yeah basically its a shame fox killed the x men series it truly could of been great but oh well.
Ok i definitely agree with Vidpro! And also I must say Fox is retarded. Killing off Cyclops?! thats BS!!!! Yeah and it was a good movie but they could've done A LOT better. I hope they have a 4th one and maybe put Gambit in it (?). Then have Rogue hook up with him like they do in the comics... I think they kind of portrayed that crisis in the 2nd movie between Bobby and Rogue though. So hey Fox did SOMETHING right romance-wise except technically its sopposed to be Remy not Iceman, but hey i'm not gonna get picky. SOOO that being said if they DO have a 4th one they should have Kitty and Peter get together, or at least aknowledge the attraction. And enough of this Wolverine-Pheonix crap too.
Ok just to let you all know: Fox said that this was the end of the "Trilogy." BUT they are already in the process of a Wolverine movie (possibly taking some ideas from the new wolvy comic book series?) but ANYWAYS hopefully that movie might introduce new X-men characters (X-23 perhaps? that'd make a pretty damn good plot.)
Acton wise I think it could've been WAYYYYYY better. Like the Iceman-Pyro fight: WTF??!?!? it was like 20 seconds long. And yes at least they showed him icing-up but overall the fighting scenes were kinda disappointing. Beast kicked ass though.
I will always be a X-movie and comic book fan but i agree with the original review: The movie didn't show its full potential.
The 3 movies as a whole are a complete waste of potential, money and time. This to me was to be the ultimate comic-to-film adaptation. Instead, what I find is my apprehension and skepticism conrirmed, stamped and approved.
It's one thing to have a few screwups in the comics storywise because they can always be corrected with the right writer. This however was the one chance Marvel had to make a perfect live action movie series. FOX and MARVEL are both to blame for what can only be decribed as "wasted potential". Theres really no other way to put it. The studios only see "money" and "marketability" and the fans suffer for it.
Ironically enough they alter the entire story from the 1st movie on and would have made 10 times more money had they just stuck to the original storyline which is obviously better.
To point out any specific flaw in any of the movies is futile at this point. Too many to list. I actually got depressed after watching the 3rd film, realizing how bad they blew it.
Now it could be another 50 years or so before we have any chance at seeing a decent version of Xmen. Even then they might fuck it up all over again.
I can't believe they had the nerve to kill Professor Xavier and Cyclops... Those are the freakin backbone of all X-Men comics. Imo they killed the franchise with that movie and it pisses me off. Can you imagine a Fantastic 4 with only 2 members left ?
Oh and I can understand Wolverines "soft side" in that movie cause I feel he was trying to fill in for Scott's absence...
Imo if you can't pick up a legendary series like X-Men don't do it... Stupid 20'th Century Fox...
What a lame movie, killing off cyclops was simply moronic. Even if they did make a 4th and undid all the crap they screwed up, what the hell was the point of the 3rd? It was completely irrelevent compared to the other two. Kinda like Fox said, "Screw you Singer, wanna go do someone else's movie instead? We'll tank the plots you were working on, and go our own way." Bastards.
Just seen xmen 3 on DVD!! OMG!! Why have I been so excited this past year?! it was appalling!! WTF was that supposed to be?! and how can they kill xavier... hello? he's the one that put the X in xmen!!
I read the comics for years and found myself spending the whole time saying to my husband (foreigner... never heard of xmen before the movies came out) "that's bull... it wasn't like that...she's older than him... he goes out with her.. not the other one!!!"
It was such a dissapointment!
And just how many different "kitty"s are there?! in the first film she looked a bit older than rogue and I think she had ginger hair... second film she was really young with mousy or brown... then in the third she is a bit younger than rouge and has dark hair... anyone else noticed this?
Well everyone thanks for the support. Oh by the way, I always "kick it in" with the credits and was there "for the scene after the credits", funny though, In all the years that I had been reading the X-Men, I don't ever remember Prof X ever doing any "mind jumping", to that extent. Correct me if I'm wrong, and heaven forbid if I sound "ar·ro·gant". Glad "Xavier's Alive" is up on the X-Men and their history. The point of my comment was that if you were "up" on the X-men's history, then you might not of taken the hollywood version to heart. Many of us who grew up on these characters probably were hoping for a more true comic to screen redition of them. Like I said before, I loved it and I hated it. Enough said.
I have to say I'm disappointed in you. You nearly killed franchise of X-Men just to make some money.
You better make 4th X-Men or there will be a hell to pay. It's not hard as you think. What I means is you made about 300 million dollars from that movie. So, why not make 4th one? Make it as apology movie then we'll forgive you for screwing the franchise (pardon my language) and that's fact!
Plus, there's way to reconnect entire story. Just have Bishop (mutant from future who's fighting the war... with Apocalypse I think... this is actually what happend in comics books... look it up if you disagree!) come back in time to reverse whole tragedy involving with Dark Phoenix. And warns them (X-Men) about future. (Which have Apocalypse. Apocalypse is first known mutant in world and ages back to egyptian peroid where slaves worshiped him as egyptian god. He's most powerful mutant on earth.) And fill in blank about Nightcrawler's disappearance in 3th movie... make it as he died from some mission or something (sorry if this sentence sounds like unprofessional... I mean I'm just 15 old boy). Then Apocalypse rises up after Jean's saved. This would be big-time profit for you guys. I suggets you get Bryan Singer as director for this one. And... I got say Cyclop's death.... completely irrelevanted!!! Jeez! Anyway, I hope you (Yeah you! FOX and MARVEL!) reads this message. And really THINK about it!
There's also several more great villains in sagas of X-Men!
List:
Bastion (Creator of Sentiels which is reponsible of most murdered mutants ever recorded in history)
Apocalypse (Oldest, most powerful, nearly is god. Who almost conquered the earth.)
Magneto ( .... where's Asteroid X ??? I'm not sure if this name is accurate but whatever)
Shadow King (Xavier's famous nemsis)
I would glady write script for you alot of you peoples! And people who reads this on this website... feel free to copy and sends email to FOX... preferably MARVEL so they will know... jeez I do hope they'll read this one.
OR If they has started making 4th. Then that's great! Just fix the rip in story arc.
Just rented Xmen III the last stand. Wow, I have lived with the xman in my life for a long time. I dont belive they played the Comic justice. Take for example the Batman Series like the Batman Comic death and progression were always kept open ended, and when you talk about superheros, thats the way fans like it. This Movie broke my heart many times, and im not being dramatic"well probally" . I can see a small simularity to the Star wars series, but a fan wants chronicals and adventures, filled with great action sequences and charitor story plots, all while never breaking the original charitor. Yeah I remeber in the comic book series Scott Summers (Cyclops) was a very level headed leader, not a tragic charitor ala romeo. In fact i think this movie was very Shakspearian.
The Charitor Acting is the original charm too this movie"thoght Its hard to draw a line in my little mind between Gandolf and Magneto!! Ian Mckellin gave the best performance by far in this series. Hackmans Look is dead on, but he could use alot more gravle in his voice, Rogue.......sigh Love the girl, but I recall rogue being a very free spirt full of spunk, not an Ophilia.
Colosous was the perect depiction of what we would see as a superhero, let the movie failed to showcase that"no Russian oy".
All and all it was a great Movie but a poor Xman story
hey...i know a lot of ppl died in the third one but is there any way cyclops can come back? If professor X came back, then jean shuld come back...but what about cyclops? i dont think the third movie was as near as good as the 1st and 2nd! I mean the 3rd was good the first couple times but after a while it really isnt that great. And i dont care what fox says..they should definetly make a 4th. they should realize how many ppl would totally love that. peace out yo!
For being one of the most popular titles in comic history, Hollyweird owes the fans a HUUUUUUUUUUUGE apology for this trilogy! I forgave them for the first one, they redeemed themselves, somewhat on the second one (better story) by showing wolverine in all his raging glory and I didn't even see the 3rd one. Thanks to the honest reviews from you guys, I won't even bother. Rule #1 - tell the right story with the right characters in the correct chronology. My god! The first one didn't have all of the original characters, it had some of the second gen, but, not all and for flavor added a dash of 3rd gen and more??????? What the F---!!!!!! I'm moving to hollywood the fix this problem of idiot writers, cocky directors and stupid suits that sell their souls to the Money God. Hey guys, lets make a WWII movie, but, instead of Patton we'll get Elvis and Hitler will win the war! It's not accurate, but, what a visual picture! We'll make millions (even if it is in deutchmarks)!
X-Men 3 was a mock of everything that x-men ever was. Notice that anything that Brett Ratner directs is full of sex, huge visual effects, and poor story-lines? Thats it. Man, i should be a director and just show hours of useless footage, and add a dog humping a lamp post, and i would make millions. Sorry for the visual, it was inappropriate, but necessary. Its absolutely ridicules, they got rid of as many big names as they could(James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, and rebecca Robijn) so they could throw in more visual effects. Absolutely obscene. And Magneto, who had posed a bigger threat in the first movies, was so poorly written, there was nothing poor Ian could possibly do to correct it, was an old fool to me. He showed more powers, but held himself worse creating- a poor character. I completely agree with Vidpro- they screwed up the beautiful love that should have been held by cyclops,(who they idiotically killed off) and the fenix( who i admit gave me the chills with her awesome powers.) Why was rogue a slut-goth, why wasn't the fact pro.x and juggernaut were brothers?, where did night crawler go?, Why not introduce a new arch villain(sinestro or something) The movie did have some redeeming qualities(the relationship between Magneto and Pro.x) ( they did come up with a way for magneto and mystique to start hating eachother)(storm was finally cool(except why she could get punched in the face and bounce back w/out blood or any thing else- like, oh, i control the weather so that means when you bash me in the face, my nose automatically wont beak made no sense to me.)) but all in all- it sucked. They needed to approach the series in a way, that presented a good storyline, included all the characters, and left it open, so the idea of- in between the movies, and before the movies, and after the movies, the adventure still continued.- similar to what the comics did. Similar to spider- man 1&2(i hated s-3 as well.) They have to make a fourth movie - TO FIX ALL THIS CRAP!!!! and another note, if lord of the rings, league of extraordinary gentlemen, and clue could make a greatmovie focusing personally on each of the many individuals within them, so could x-men. So i don't want to hear any of the - there are just too many characters to focus on them all- or become intimate with each of them, bull. It just takes a little creativity and skill. So lets prey for better in the future.
A truly awful film/franchise. I cannot believe how anybody with ANY prior knowledge of the xmen comics could have thought any of the films were any good. i could go on like many others (Vidpro, Scott S) about whats was wrong with the film, but lets just say...it was a total waste of an oppurtunity. okay well, i will just say this...
Having Patrick Stewart was a blessing - a guy you could see as pro.X back from his Star Trek days. But having Gandolf as Magneto instantly lowered my expectations, then the unmittitagated mistake of casting that schoolboy (james marsden) for the role of Scott Summers - the leader of the xmen, who should be a big butch guy, but looks like a child with a pair of silly goggles on - it made the idea of a relationship between him and Jean Grey look wrong from the start. she looks WAY older...just wrong...
Rogue is meant to be sexy, if she aint sexy then who is? Storm you say?...casting such a fine woman as Halle Berry for no purpose whatsoever other than cos shes halle berry was pathetic. i could have been spun around like she was, for less money...totally pointless.
and Archangel?..oh god what was the point of bird boy if he doesnt get transformed?...
Juggernaught...oh lord...what a total disappointment, a mutant...wrong? i won't bother with the whole Prof. X/Jugg lack of relationship mishap, absolutely clueless....
unlike some comments i read, i can understand why they didnt portray the Pheonix Saga correctly - its complicated stuff that the average film fan - (thats you people who said you LOVED the film) just won't understand in the 104mins available. all that Dark Pheonix and shi'ar stuff is best left to the realms of the comics - its never gonna wash with the film goers who dont know any better
what they should have done was kept things simple, following the comic in chronolgic order, building the characters and story over the three films, eachtime using new villans, a bit like Batman franchise did, there are plenty of different avenues they could have taken this, as the comic is massive, so for them to end up with "the cure/ dark-ish phoenix" story for the third film was deeply depressing.
i was expecting high class CGI, clever storylines, wolverine-sabertooth, charles-juggernaught, use of super villians such as Mister Sinister + Apocalypse, it seemed so simple....man my heads starting to spin...
it so bad im gonna go get me a stiff drink......
i agree with ds_79's comment that we will have to wait another 50years before we can get the film we deserve.

I love it when you always omit one 'Y' to the name of the one who portrays storm :)
