Julie Taymor's next venture into the realm of Shakespeare has a composer. Once again she's tapped Elliot Goldenthal for her cross-gender journey into the world of The Tempest. The film, which takes the classic character Prospero and turns him into a her will star Jeremy Irons, Alfred Molina, Djimon Hounsou and Helen Mirren as Prospera.
The nineties weren't kind to Goldenthal. His slate of movie scores was heavy on projects like Batman Forever, Batman and Robin and Sphere. When ecelctic (but usually brilliant) director Julie Taymor made the jump from stage to screen she brought her collaboration with Goldenthal along with her.
It's been good for Goldenthal who enjoyed an Academy Award win for his work on Taymor's Across The Universe. Not bad for a guy who had to compete with the Beatles for attention in the film's music department.
