New movie soundtrack releases hitting Amazon, iTunes, and shelves (for you old schoolers) on November 6, 2007.
Lions for Lambs
Marc Isham, whose haunting themes and intriguing styles have graced movies like Kiss The Girls, October Sky and Crash, provides the score for Robert Redford's latest political-ranting in political-thriller's clothing Lions For Lambs. I haven't had a chance to hear the soundtrack or see the movie, but if early reviews are to be believed, Meryl Streep's all-too-brief appearances and Isham's composition may be the only redeeming qualities here.
Martian Child
Composer Aaron Zigman hasn't been composing for major motion pictures a very long time but he's already racked up quite a resumé. He's covered a wide range of genres, but always seems to land back with the kinds of emotional journey stories like Martian Child. Some of his past populars include the scores for The Notebook, Akeelah and the Bee and Bridge to Teribithia. Martian Child sounds, generally, about as mediocre as the movie it's set against, but its understated themes make for nice background listening.
American Gangster
A soundtrack/music-from combo disc, this includes only a couple of tracks by composer Marc Streitenfeld with the rest being filled out with songs from the movie by various artists. Streitenfeld has only recently come into his own as a composer after more than ten years filling assistant-composer and consultant roles. However he seems to be Ridley Scott's new man, composing the score for this film and Scott's last movie A Good Year. Other artists on the disc include Hank Shocklee, John Lee Hooker and Anthony Hamilton.
