We’ve wished for several time travel devices on this list in the last twelve days, but one time machine rises above all others: Back to the Future’s DeLorean. Even friends who feel I’ve gotten redundant on this list didn’t challenge wishing for the DeLorean. After all, it’s not just a time machine, but also a stylish way to travel. Depending on where you are in the movies, it can even fly. You can’t ask for more than that. ... read more |

So here’s an interesting piece of behind the scenes information: today’s selection was originally “the One Ring” from Lord of the Rings. My wife, who I absolutely adore for conversations like this, pointed out that there really weren’t any benefits to put the One Ring on a wish list, other than the invisibility, which was only accomplished by using the ring, but led to the user going a bit crazy. ... read more |

I love my house. It’s a cute building that has everything my wife and I need, complete with a home office where I can have all my junk and a movie room perfect for my home theater. There are days, however, that I’d love to come home and have a beer waiting for me, or that my wife would love not to have to think about dinner because it’s already been taken care of. Those are the days we wish we had S.A.R.A.H. ... read more |

For many people, the holiday season means travel, and travel brings with it all sorts of new trials and tribulations. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could skip the eight hour drive over the river and through the woods and just get to Grandmother’s house within seconds? That’s why we need transporters to get us there instantly. ... read more |

There’s just one warning we should issue to those attempting to get this gift: the use of it may take you to regions of time and space inhabited by low-budget menaces such as animated mannequins and trash cans. Use at your own risk and don’t expect superior special-effects while in use. ... read more |

Last year science fiction lost one of its greatest assets with the passing of Andreas Katsulas, who gave Babylon 5’s character of G’Kar a voice and soul beyond compare. G’Kar, who started out as a haughty warrior, wound up finding a more spiritual path in life, and uttered some of the most profound ideas science fiction has offered. ... read more |

I hate doing chores. They just seem like an endless spiral to me. Clean the dishes so we can use them to cook (another chore) which means they’re dirty and have to be cleaned again. Life’s too short to spend so much time cleaning dishes, especially without the time turner of two days ago. ... read more |

I took three years of Spanish in high school and two more in college. Do you know how much Spanish I speak now? Almost none. I can barely even remember how to conjugate verbs, let alone remember what the verbs were. I know it’s much easier to learn a language if you immerse yourself in it, which isn’t exactly what a high school classroom is like, but still, there’s got to be an easier way. ... read more |

If you’re anything like me, your schedule is jam-packed full and you could use a couple more hours in the day. There’s no need for a full fledged time machine, just a way to add a tiny amount of time to get everything done. Thankfully the wizards of Harry Potter’s world have come up with exactly that kind of creation: a time turner. ... read more |

Computers have evolved at a surprising speed. It seems every year they get faster and able to do more. It probably only is a matter of time before someone does create a solid enough A.I. that they’ll do everything we want. But when will they know everything we need them to know about everything in the Galaxy, and be able to deliver it all with a comforting British voice? ... read more |
