Like many of you I’ve been switching over to energy saving fluorescent bulbs. For one thing my apartment has horrible wiring and bulbs seem to go at nearly monthly intervals, so the longer lasting bulbs should get me at least a year. The promised 7 years would be ideal. Have you noticed that April has moved from having Earth Day to pretty much being an Earth month? As such, most of the month has been filled with all sorts of Green tips, from the Going Green theme at my favorite theater’s pre-movie show to an onslaught of environmental tips at the geek sites I frequent. Don’t expect to make a living off your disused monitors and cell phones, however. This is junk we’re talking about, probably not worth the time auctioning off on eBay. Through their tests, Dvice was offered a whopping $63 for an old Mac Pro. Ann Arbor, Michigan already has some pretty big bragging rights. After all, it’s the home to the University of Michigan and quite a few high tech companies (like JSTOR, Pfizer, and Arbor Networks). The hope is that the contest will help kick start innovation in the energy industry or start the development of newer, cleaner transportation technology. The rules are very open and there are no real restrictions on what types of development they are looking for. Anything from large scale energy generation projects to geothermal powered hairdryers is fair game.
