Best Buy Starts New Electronics Recycling Initiative
Recycling electronics sucks. In my house there are currently 2 desktop PCs and one laptop that are of no use to me. I’ve cannibalized the parts I need and the rest sits there, taunting me. Daring me to pollute the world and throw them away in the trash. The reason is that if you look into recycling your junk electronics you discover all kinds of fees and shipping charges you’ll have to pay. We’re supposed to be striving to help the environment, and yet I have to pay $45 to get rid of my garbage. Sorry, that doesn’t seem exactly fair. I pay my taxes, and garbage collection is covered by that. I’m willing to have yet another colored bin to put my electronics in, if that’s what it takes.

OK, now that I’ve buried the lead and then planted a garden on the damn thing let’s get to the point. Best Buy has announced a new electronics recycling program they are testing in 117 of their stores. The program allows customers to recycle up to two devices per household, per day, at a local store. Traditional items like < 32” monitors, computers, phones, cameras and other small devices are part of the program. But if you have a large TV, air conditioner, microwave and sundry other large appliances you’ll still have to find alternate means of getting rid of them.

If you’d like to find out if your local Best Boy is participating you can visit this website.
