The DVS450H DVD player by LG has officially been christened by DivX. Or more simply put, DivX certified that it has the capabilities of playing high-definition content. This player is actually the first DVD player from a major manufacturer to be able to play HD video. Being able to enjoy HD material on a standard DVD device, and nowadays with the whole Blu-ray craze, who'd have thunk?
Rather than having to worry about the considerable storage space required for typical HD video, DivX gives you the quality without the enormous file size. So, all you need to do is burn your DivX video to a DVD or load it onto a USB flash drive and you're good to go. According to the Head of Marketing Strategy Team in LG Electronics' Digital Media Company, Dan D.H. Koh, the most important aspect of this new product is that it "simplifies the consumer transition to HD entertainment by providing a high-definition experience on a familiar DVD platform." Having the ability to fit an entire full length, high definition on a standard DVD - sounds good to me. But wait, it only gets better.
This device is going to be quite the sleek looking element to add to your home entertainment system. (And I know there are many of you out there who can be easily suckered into buying a sleek looking device like I am.) Consumers will have the option of mounting this "floating" DVS450H on their wall horizontally or vertically, or they can opt to have it sit pretty on a table. But don't forget - pretty things come at a pretty price. According to Gizmodo, the DVD player will run you about $240 and is due to hit the stores in October.
