Gears of War 2, the sequel to the hit 360 title by Epic Games, is not just for playing. At this years San Diego Comic-Con fans will get a chance to get the latest details on the DC comic based on the game series, as well as some fancy new collectibles. It’s a veritable treasure trove of grunty man phrases being uttered throughout the Microsoft and DC Comics booths when Cliff Bleszinski brings along Marcus Fenix and the Cole Train.
Cliffy B and lead comic writer Joshua Ortega will be on hand Saturday, July 26th and 2:00-2:45 pm to talk to fans and autograph Gears of War 2 posters. At 3:30pm in Room 6B the pair will put on a Showcase Panel for the game and comic that features Karen Traviss from Del Rey Books. The comics are being produced by DC Comics’ WildStorm productions and feature the writing of Joshua Ortega and the art of Liam Sharp. The comic series bridges the events between the two Gears games. Karen Traviss is the author of three new Gears of War novels. The first of which, Gears of War: The Battle of Aspho Fields will go on sale October 28th from Del Ray Books.
Oh but it gets better fellow geeks. NECA is debuting a few new collectibles at the show this year. A limited edition 7” Anthony Carmine figure will be available only at Comic-Con for $20. The new prototype for General RAM and the Gears 2 Locust Flame Grenadier will be on display, along with a full-size electronic Lancer Assault Rifle. It’s a toy replica so don’t expect to become the greatest hunter of beastly burrowing bad guys this side of Men In Huge Boots, Wisconsin.
If you have a moment to stop buy either the Microsoft or DC Comics booths you can enter exclusive giveaways for a limited edition Xbox 360 console featuring artwork by Brandon Badeaux based on the upcoming comic series.
