Like many of you I’ve been switching over to energy saving fluorescent bulbs. For one thing my apartment has horrible wiring and bulbs seem to go at nearly monthly intervals, so the longer lasting bulbs should get me at least a year. The promised 7 years would be ideal. Over in Sweden the newly designed “Spark” lamp is taking energy efficiency to a new level.
The concept runs in tandem with the Swedish governments plan to install smart energy meters on new homes. The lamp uses a Wi-Fi connection to get at the data and will change colors for 3-seconds to show how close you are to the monthly goal. To add that extra little energy saver oomph the “Spark” lamp is also solar powered.
The design, by Beverly Ng, allows the LED lamp to be flipped over when charging up and resembling a potted plant. Well, not exactly. The look is more of a modernist designer’s impression of a potted plant, but it’s still cool. The lamp is currently not available anywhere, remaining a concept.
