Iron Man Toys Are Made From Disappointment

Last week as I perused the aisles of one of our local Targets (every one of these stores seems to have 2 or 3 relatives within a 10 minute drive) I noticed some Iron Man toys. Now, being a geek who is recently infatuated with all things Tony Stark I picked a few up and looked at them. The quality of workmanship on toys has taken a drastic downturn in recent decades. When I was a kid, something like the Iron Man action figure would have been die cast metal and kick complete ass.

Lucky for me I did not pick anything up, as Gizmodo currently has possession of a few items and they’re as worthless as I’d thought. From the lame-duck action figure to a facemask that is essentially a hard shell Halloween mask, the toys are a disappointment. The worst offender is the arm gauntlet, which fires half-hearted discs. A toy like this when I was a kid would have been number one for the summer as all my friends grabbed one and we took our wars into the woods. Put a gauntlet on the right arm, load up a b.b. gun, and get to having a war. Now that was a damn good time.

Ironically enough it’s the Nerf gun that wasn’t nerfed all that much. Sure, it’s still just a nerf gun…but at least it does something properly. Firing a good distance at a fast rate is exactly what a toy like the Stark Industries N.R.F. 425 Blaster: Nerf Repulsor Machine Gun should do.
