MacBook Air Starts Shipping... Presumably By Air
If you jumped on the Apple MacBook Air bandwagon quickly thereís good news for you this week: your new laptop is probably flying its way to you right now. According to Apple, the first MacBook Air laptops have shipped.
Donít expect to get one right away if you havenít already pre-ordered. Although the units have theoretically shipped, phone calls by Computer World to several Apple stores yielded no results. When told that Apple had announced the laptop had started shipping, sales reps stated that theyíll probably have them in about two days.
If Appleís iPhone was any indication, however, donít expect MacBook Airs to stay in stock for long. Apple fanatics have no problem waiting in line for the next beloved invention to come along, and then gobble them up quickly. Even though Apple stores anticipate carrying the low and higher end versions of the Air, I would be surprised if they were able to keep either in stock for long over the next month or so.
While Iím in the market for a new laptop, and most likely will go with an Apple again, I donít think Iíll be jumping on the Air wagon just yet. Although Iíd love to have a much thinner computer, Iím not sold on the concept of a machine without a disc drive, finding myself far too frequently in situations where ďborrowingĒ the drive from a nearby machine just isnít an option. If youíre one of the early adopters, however, let us know what you think.
