Mars Replaces Rudolph In Christmas Eve Sky
Days after the message came that Mars could be hit by a large asteroid early next year, it’s clear the red planet isn’t worried. In fact, Mars is expected to shine brightly in the Christmas sky, possibly replacing the need for Rudolph’s red nose in the front of Santa’s sleigh as the big guy makes his rounds tonight.

Mars will be the closest it comes to Earth in both planet’s orbit tonight, and will also be sitting at opposition of the Sun, meaning it’s location will lead to it being the closest to Earth and the brightest it gets. In fact, the red planet will shine brighter than most, if not all, stars in the sky tonight.

Accompanying the bright Mars will be a full moon, leading to quite a brilliant sky. Both Mars and the moon will be at their brightest around midnight. Of course, most little-ones should be fast asleep by that time, waiting for Santa to make his deliveries, but if you’re up that late try and take a peek into the sky and enjoy the view.
