I’d like to know why car manufacturers have to make their electric vehicles so silly looking. The hybrid Prius is an ugly and awkward contraption, and now Nissan has shown off the Nuvu. It’s not a 100% electric car, which Nissan says they’ll have ready by 2010. There’s no need for me to have a behemoth of a car, although I am 6’4” and do need a little leg room. A smaller car is fine, but not one designed Walt Disney.
The Nuvu is less than ten feet long and only seats three people. The car is still just a concept, so there’s hope that if Nissan decides to go forward with production they’ll be able to make some major tweaks. I don’t want to look like Mr. Incredible hunched over the wheel of my vehicle as I make my way through rush hour traffic.
Nissan takes things a bit further by making the interior cabin materials from recycled or organic items. Organic? I think it’s about time to call the time of death on that post-industrial marketing term. It’s long lost the intended meaning when the organic movement began in the sixties. Unless my car is a Cylon Raider it is not organic. Wait, can someone make that happen?
