In the past the closest you could get to experiencing Star Trek first hand was The Star Trek Experience in Los Vegas. There you could view the bridge of the Enterprise, take part in defending against a Borg invasion, and even lose plenty of money while you were there, like any good Ferengi business. Of course, Vegas isn’t exactly within the average travel plans of the everyday Trekkie. Thankfully, Star Trek is going on tour to help remedy that.
Starting on January 18th, Star Trek will begin a new mission in Long Beach, California that will take Star Trek: the Tour across America. The Tour is a huge collection of Star Trek paraphernalia, from phasers and costumes to ships and other props that stretches across all of the Trek series and films. Over 250 props are collected together in the world’s biggest Trek collection.
This isn’t just a prop show, however. Star Trek: the Tour also features four full-motion flight simulators to give you a feeling of what it’s like to actually ride on the Enterprise. A theater in the round, featuring 360-degree video screens, will put viewers in the middle of Star Trek action. A recreation of the original series Enterprise bridge will allow visitors to have their picture taken and superimposed among the original cast. Other set recreations include Captain Picard’s quarters and Dr. Crusher’s sick bay, and the bridge of the Next Generation Enterprise.
As if all of those recreations, props, and gadgetry weren’t enough, the captain himself, William Shatner, will serve as the Celebrity Ambassador for the tour, making appearances through the show’s multi-city run!
Shatner and Star Trek: the Tour will begin the tour in Long Beach, California on January 18th, where the show will remain until February 17th. From there the tour is scheduled for appearances in San Francisco, Minneapolis / St. Paul, Chicago, and Detroit. More information can be found at www.StarTrekTheTour.com. Tickets will go on sale on December 7th (for American Express customers) and December 15th (for the rest of the public).
