Spending your day getting hit on the head by a clown with a sock and ordering dinner from a waiter who rates your selection with circle snaps probably sounds like a spectacular idea. You wouldn’t be wrong, because the Wayans brothers have returned to the negotiating table to try and ink a deal for a new studio in Oakland, along with a theme park based on the vast array of characters created by the brothers.
According to the Hollywood Reporter the Oakland City Council is going to sit down to consider a four month long negotiation deal with the Wayans brothers today. The previous deal fell through when the deadline came and went in May with deadlines blown. So, the multitudes of Wayans fans were left to cry unhappy tears that the happiest place in Oakland fell through. Oakland would like to get the project under way because it’s been in the talking stage for years and could offer a significant number of new jobs for the area.
Keenen Ivory Wayans, the former face of the Wayans and creator of ‘In Living Color,’ spoke with Oakland mayor Ron Dellums to entice him with the idea of a new studio, large business park, luxury hotel, and a retail village. This would be a perfect way for the brothers to produce a film and get merchandise out to the public quickly and with Disney style. I imagine walking into one of the shops and being bombarded with Wanda key chains, Scary Movie t-shirts, and a collector’s figurine of Mike Tyson holding Damon Wayans in a headlock calling him “funny man.” We’ll keep a close eye on the project because a Wayans World theme park is the greatest thing to come to Oakland since it was Hammer time.
