Havok Free For PC Developers

Havok today announced they would provide their widely used physics and animation tool suite to PC developers for the low price of free. Havok Complete will be available to download in May for non-commercial use. The company hopes that by offering this software, which is used in AAA titles like Halo 3, Assassin’s Creed and Half-Life 2 that independent developers will have the opportunity to push their ideas further.

A deal between Havok and parent company, Intel, will allow select PC devs to execute a commercial distribution license for free. “Intel is very pleased to be sponsoring this direction in the PC market. This aligns well with our ongoing strategy of putting the best software tools in the hands of PC games developers,” said Renee J. James, Corporate Vice President and General Manager, Software and Solutions Group, Intel Corporation in a press release today.

Havok also introduced new technology at this year’s Game Developers Conference. Havok Cloth and Destruction provide even more control over cloth and destructible objects in games. The new technology will integrate with Havok Physics and Animation directly out of the box. “Innovative and easy to utilize, Havok Cloth and Destruction are powerful, flexible tools giving art teams more control in the design process, resulting in a more realistic interactive experience for gamers,” said David O’Meara, Managing Director of Havok.
