America’s Most Wanted: America Fights Back - Season 22
Premieres: Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 9:00 p.m. Network: Fox Creator(s): Lance Heflin (Executive Producer) Starring: John Walsh (host) Website: AMW.com
Much like COPS, America’s Most Wanted has been around forever. The series profiles various wanted in the hopes that viewers will keep an eye out for these dangerous people. The series has lead to the capture of over 1000 criminals. Also, 43 missing children have been reunited with their families.
In the 22nd’ season premiere, the episode will feature eight prisoners who escaped from prison in southern New Mexico last August. While four men were caught, the other four are still at large, including one convicted murderer.
I have to say, it’s pretty impressive that a TV series (especially one as long-running as this one) continues to have an impact on the pursuit of lawbreakers. Especially considering some of the captured criminals were on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. It’s been years since I’ve actually watched the show but I expect that the series continues to draw in steady ratings, considering how long it’s been on the air.
