This has been a great week in the Big Brother house and while the houseguests may not have known that tonight’s live episode would see two houseguests evicted, they still had plenty to stress out over. Dan kept up the illusion that he was keeping the deal he made with Ollie until the Veto ceremony when he tossed said deal out the window. He attempted to throw some of the attention on to some of the other houseguests by making them state which HG they wanted to see nominated as a replacement. In the end though, I think Dan’s “weakness” strategy went out the window with the broken deal.
Ollie was beyond angry not only to see his alliance member nominated but also because Dan out-played him. He was probably remember some of the more cockier moments in the diary room earlier that week when he was winking at us and acting like he had this whole week locked up. Michelle vented in the diary room over Dan’s choice to make her pay for Ollie’s bad deal. Ollie, Jerry and Michelle all agreed that Dan must be a plant. Perhaps none of them were willing to admit that they were outplayed, plain and simple. I guess it’s easier to make up a ridiculous theory about Dan being a plant. They also decided that his football picture is fake and that Dan’s girlfriend Monica is somehow in on the plot. When they tried to call Dan out on it, he got up and walked away. As Dan put it, it didn’t make sense to plant a bomb and then wait to watch it explode so he got the heck out of there.
Keesha and Memphis stuck around to hear Ollie’s ridiculous conspiracy theories and laugh about him expecting them to feel bad for not being on the block. Ollie stormed off, calling Memphis a “Red headed cabbage patch kid.” I assume this is just as nasty a slur as “scallywag” (which is what he called Libra weeks ago). Those who were watching the feeds know that Ollie went on to call Memphis some other names that were obviously left on the cutting room floor.
Ollie then proceeded to take his anger out on the backyard, breaking a light and throwing some other stuff around. Michelle called Dan out for making her pay for Ollie’s mistake. The truth is, from what I’ve seen in the live feed recaps, when it came down to deciding whether it was Ollie or Michelle that went up on the block to replace Memphis, they decided that Michelle was a tougher competitor. She’s actually won competitions, unlike Ollie.
Michelle gave the obnoxiously stale “Vote for yourself” speech and once again, it didn’t do any good. Renny, Keesha and Memphis voted to evict Michelle and Ollie was the lone vote to evict Jerry. Michelle repeated her “plant” theory to Julie saying she thinks there’s more to Dan than meets the eye and that he wants to make a fool out of everyone in the house. Julie delivered the surprise twist in that there was no twist and that Dan is just another player like everyone else, making that little interview one of the best post-eviction interviews ever. Michelle went on to say that he’s crazy and that she thinks he’ll be walking out the door tonight.
As outgoing HoH, Dan wasn’t eligible to compete in the fast-forward HoH, so it was vital that one of his alliance members get it otherwise Ollie and/or Jerry could be getting their vengeance on within the hour. For the competition, the houseguests had to listen to the fake-headlines that viewers were polled on at CBS.com. Julie would read the headline then say the name of two houseguests. The houseguests were blocked from each others’ view as they stepped up or down according to their answer. Jerry got ahead by a point and stayed there until the last question when Keesha tied him.
Apparently America thinks Keesha could beat Jessie at an arm wrestling contest. In what had to be a Big Brother first, Keesha and Jerry tied in the number they picked for the amount of lollypops the houseguests were given, both writing in “100.” The tie-breaker-tie-breaker question had to do with the number of seconds in the total combined time of one of the competitions. Keesha took forever giving her answer but in the end, her number was higher and Jerry’s (though neither came close to the real answer.) I love that Keesha actually tried to do the math on it even if it seemed like Julie was about to yell at her if she didn’t produce an answer.
Keesha predictably nominated Jerry and Ollie for eviction, mentioning that Memphis, Dan and Renny have been there for her the whole game. But Ollie and Jerry had one more chance to secure their safety by competing with the others in the Veto competition. For the Veto comp, the houseguests had to dig through individual stacks of hay to find two Veto medallions. Then they had to bring each medallion back to the starting point one at a time. Dan found his first medallion fastest, and while some of the other houseguests weren’t far behind, Dan got his second medallion to the finish and won the Veto.
Dan opted not to use the Veto, not wanting to put any of his alliance members in jeopardy. Ollie gets credit though for being a good sport about being nominated when he joked about Dan’s roulette game in his pre-Veto ceremony speech. I wondered if Dan, Memphis and Renny might give Jerry the boot considering he’s won more competitions than Ollie. But in the end, they either figured Ollie was due for a win or perhaps they were just sick of his attitude and not willing to give him a chance to avenge Michelle and April’s evictions because they voted unanimously to evict him.
When Julie announced that by a vote of 3-0, Ollie was evicted, he literally bolted for the door. No hugs or parting words. He kept his cool for the most part when Julie interviewed him and tried to play down the anger he had for Dan for out-playing him. Julie turned the conversation to April and that’s where I got bored. Fortunately, the episode ended after that and we got a glimpse of the remaining houseguests looking relieved that this fast-forward night had come to an end.
So now it’s down to Renny, Keesha, Memphis, Dan and Jerry. I expect we’ll see some shifts in alliances as Jerry attempts to buddy up (probably with the girls) with the rest of the house but if R/K/M/D stick to their final-four plan, we could be seeing Jerry walk out the door next Thursday.
